Lolette: Certain bank charges are more interesting in online bank accounts compared to traditional system, do you have one,, is it worth in the long run?
A bank should charge you LESS if it's an online account!! If they charge you more, look somewhere else. seriously.
Some banks offer a combined, traditional with online option and some do straight online only accounts. Either way, any online option should be cheaper.
Whether it's advisable depends on your circumstances and their encryption/security options. I find the security protocol that they use in Germany to be far better than the standard encryption in the US. You get a per-transaction code, so even if someone were able to hack it, they could only do very little damage. In the US, if someone gets in, it's party time, you know.

You can give your money to me for free, I wont charge you anything

Occasionally I have to pay foreign bills - I can't post a cheque, so an online transfer is the only option. I prefer online transfer to setting up a direct debit or standing order.

KNena ,, i'm not on that yet, i use WU for money transfer if i do? but then expensive too,, well what is not expensive now? thanks.
Online banking is good, these days online probably safer than other forms of banking as long as you use your own computer its as safe as your computers security. Anti-Virus programs like Kaspersky load a special secure page whenever you access your bank. The page is not stored in temp files after use and is very secure method of accessing your account.
Anti-Virus program like Spybot (German) funnels all your computers internet traffic through Spybot's own Proxy Server and is therefore very secure.
PayPal is an online Bank (American), Paypal owns eBay, you can transfer money through PayPal, safely pay for online goods (comes with guaranties) offers free transactions for purchases...
Online banking normally, here anyway, all major banks as long as you haven't divulged your details, offer guaranties.
I don't know anyone in Australia that doesn't use online banking, and or bank cards etc etc.

Nidi ,,hi,, cheaper is the option, we are sollicited or highly advertised here regarding this, but how frustrating it is when we are talking to platforms if we need informations or service,, well a lot are already on platforms ,,and it's nerve cracking at times,

Same here, I rarely deal with cash and that is why online banking is better option. Debit account and debit card are just fine in this case. About the security matter, bank account could be emptied even if one doesn't have online banking. Good banks usually have pretty good security for the online banking.

robplum,,i don't know that much about Australia's monetary system,, but here where i am, nobody or almost make no cash on hand exchange, checks are almost phased out. Even a single bread can be paid by a card,, cards w/c function like a coin purse ,, a lot of cards, thus opening to a good competition as to card rates. Thanks for your piece of mind.

I use xe.com to transfer from my UK account to my bank in Phils, they are cheaper than WU and more secure.I also only do internet banking using either my Apple Mac or Linux computers, as windows based systems are so easily cracked that hackers can watch every code you enter. Apple and Linux are much harder to crack. If you can afford an account with HSBC then they are also very good at transfers, especially between the EU and Phils.
