redo416: fast food mega giants has remove ham and bacon form some 185 outlets and are now using halal meat .ever wonder how halal meat is prepared at the abattoirs .the throats of the animals are cut while they are fully conscious to me that is very inhumane needlessly cruel! guess muslim and jews are happy!!
Crap boy , stock are rendered unconscious with a captive bolt first . It is not possible to cut the throat of a 1000 kg bull let alone thousands of steers , millions of sheep . Boy , if you knew what you were talking about you would know its not possible to run a meat works without the captive bolt . Most of NZ meat we have halal staff present when killed with their bums pointing towards mecca . Islam is a big spender on meat , and I have never known of vegan Islamists by choice as meat is a luxury for some .

2girlsnocup: Pretty much this.
Tesco and the like will quite happily sell their meat at a loss, as they can make the difference up elsewhere in the store. The local butcher can't afford to do that. They buy the meat from local sources, but don't have the luxury of the 'bulk discount' major brands have.
That's exactly how it is. We had a butchers shop and got our meat from a local slaughter house in Germany. I saw how the entire process works. They used the bolt to the brain method back in the days. All very clean and quick. Anyway, we sold only top quality meat (regular and kosher). Back in the days, there was no demand for halal. As the supermarkets moved in and one megamarket, profits dwindled and we had to close up. My mother then went to work at one of those large markets as a buyer for meat products... and so it goes. The death of small business.

Sannu: I just think of slops when I think of Subway, soggy bottomed bread, or baps, rolls, dripping with laden filled toxic sauces.
Their coffee sure is fine.
They could be better I admit, but given most of it is given to my lunch buddies dog, it's not a bad thing. I don't mind the soggy bread. Chuck it in the microwave when I get back to the office, and I have a semi nice cheese toasty.
Fine coffee and I like the way you're able to buy the beans, so fine coffee can be had at home as well.

Exactly, take them home, grind them and voila! Some of the coffee is very strong, so it is a pleasurable experiment testing which one suits the palete.

I cannot complain about Subway...never experienced soggy bread...usually opt for vegetarian or egg salad subs...better for you than Mc Donalds...or other burger chains...

I can't complain too much either. They give me a bag of offcuts for my lunch buddies dog. Yeah, I've had a few dodgy ones, but it happens wherever you shop.
I'm barred from getting the egg salad. Greenpeace sent me a warning letter
