The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
- Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
- Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, 5 June 1824

Thank you so much String.wave

Agree with you wholeheartedly on that one. Like the post on the crime committed in Ireland. Perhaps would have been a different story if they had some ammunition against the murderers..

lifeisadream: I do have my children with me so do I have my brothers with me as well and they (my brothers) do work on protecting people Lindsy.

I guess some brothers are better than others.

You are lucky Life, let me tell you, I have two brothers but my protector was killed on duty for the government of the Philippines. How nice it is indeed to have someone besides you specially children and siblings.cheers

DDawson59: Ironic the Obama / USA Inc Corporation ( yes the federalist system is not a govt but a legal Corporation) supply both sides of the Muslim radical movement with weapons, chemical weapons and ammo and supplies, yet want legal responsible gun owners to give up their mode of defense. Anyone else find that odd? Oh wait communist believe 'govt' is a god so they must obey the supreme p*dophile in political office...idiots. Guns are for protection against criminals with criminal intent using weapons of force. The world is full of them. Why would people be that stupid and give away their guns and rights to have and use one? United Nations with 193 Tyrannical Dictatorship Member countries who kill everyday their citizens. Give up guns is a mandatory death sentence.

D a very powerful illustration there and I do agree with you 100 percent.

Thanks for joining in D.wave

Ccincy: Hard to choose cause either way nuclear bomb or gun obviously don't make us any more less dead.

I think the effect of the gun to harm others is not as bad as the bomb CC. Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Think of the devastation it does with the new bombs today. yay yay yay.sad flower

A professor at UCLA School of Law, writing for the Washington Post, says the battle over the Second Amendment will be won by progressives in the coming years, thanks to a secret weapon.

That weapon is immigrants, says Adam Winkler, a law professor and author of the book “Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America.”

Nationalize all corporations and or making them cohorts, that is indeed, the power to that leads to fascism Brian. I believe we are in a dangerous direction then...

lindsyjones: Are you for it? Or NOT?

Why?

This is part of the Constitutional amendment ratified in December 1791.

Although primarily created to arm the citizens against tyrannical rule, today there's a lot of other reasons why it's still in effect.

One of the most debated topic today and I would love to hear the pros and cons. Thanks all for your participation.

I am for the "Right To Bear Arms"...
Why?
Mostly for protection of self and property.
The Government has become the enemy, and they aren't going to protect us!
So, I support the "right to bear arms"...

Wheew String, what a book. I mean if there is any truth in this book, we are heading for a much bigger trouble.

Basically, these rural whites who support gun rights are being replaced by more urban, less white, more liberal voters from Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

So it’s just a matter of time before demographics take over. He cites polling data that gun control is “extremely popular” with Hispanics, 75 percent of whom allegedly favor “gun safety over gun rights.”
