I actually work in the gaming industry and teachieve player psychology. The definition of "Pro" gamblers is that they are, on the whole, winners. Sure, they will have losing sessions, even months at a time, but overall they will be iñ peofit. Anyone who calls himself a professional but consistantly loses is at best a serious hobbyist and at worst addicted.

True professionals tend to be poker players or sports bettors. Skill and experiwnce can ibfluence the results. Those who consider themselves pro casino players tend to be deluding themselves. With the exception of blackjack there is nothing one can do to beat the natural house edge built into those games.

I have dealt with players to have won 100,000 on a single bet. I have worked with players who have lost that much in a week. Win the World Series of Poker and you're 7 or 8 million dollars richer, but unlike you or I, those guys would not quit there but keep on playing. Poker pros see the money as a way to keep playing. A means to an end - that end being the buy-in to the next tourney.

Apologies for the typos. Writing on smartphone...

Do you mean you played 15 years ago and again recently, or have you been playing for 15 years? If the latter, that single zero 2.7% house edge is going to eat you alive. (Don't even get me started on American Roulette) .laugh Why anyone would play that game......

The true professional gamblers own casinos.

They have the odds in their favor.

Only a loser like Trump could lose with house odds!

And that's what casinos want you to believe.

Casinos never gamble! With the odds in your favour, you are never gambling but investing.

As soon as the player places his chips on the table they are yours, whilst he has anything up to a 14% (or more) house edge against them.

This is why the Mormon Church bankrolls so much in Vegas, they know it is a good business opportunity.

Any casino that loses over time is due to bad management..

The closest legal way you can get close to nullifying the House Edge is card counting in Blackjack. If they so much as suspect you're counting they will simply refuse your action.

A player may win - the player doesn't

Vegas was built on losers but having said this I know a man who puts his masters degree in statistics to excellent use by designing programmes which cheat the introductory offers on gaming websites. It's bought him an upmarket flat in the centre of town.

My Dad bought a book on card counting and drove to Vegas.

My Mom had to send him a bus ticket home.

I'll bet you the sun comes up in the east; but odds greater than that aren't worth chancing it to me.

In Vegas I plan on losing. I just play nickel slots slow enough that my drinks are cheaper than if I bought them, and hit the all the buffets I can.

And when I hit the buffets, I pack some food for my trip home.

I always leave Vegas ahead of the game.

How much does that trip cost? wink
Factor in that a large soda (from the machine) costs them pennies. They buy wholesale, we calculate things retail...

Many people half read a book and think they are pros. Your mum was the sensible one. Stay home.

15 years in this industry. I don't gamble at all. Not even a home poker game.

Remember - The only way to walk out of a casino with a million dollars in your pocket is... to walk into the casino with ten million...

When I was young I hitch-hiked and hopped freight trains all over the country, and hit Vegas to fatten up, where I'd put on nice clothes, stash my pack at the Greyhound station to go meet women who'd give me jewelry and money to gamble with.

The only time I ever took a woman to Vegas, we hitch-hiked.

A few times I bought bus tickets from Santa Monica to San Bernardino and stayed in the bus till it got to Vegas...

That means I never spent over $7.50 for a trip to Vegas. You can multiply that by 3.

Even if a Big Gulp only costs them a few pennies, if I drank them, I couldn't buy them for that.

In Vegas I usually only drank Jack Daniels and Heinekens.... maybe some water or coffee?

And I only put a nickle in the slot when I saw a waitress.

Believe me, I never left Vegas a loser.
