Australia will make it more difficult to gain citizenship in a major overhaul of its migration process. Aspiring citizens will undergo tougher tests on their English language skills and ability to demonstrate "Australian values", PM Malcolm Turnbull said.
Applicants must also have completed four years as a permanent resident - three years longer than at present. The move comes two days after Australia unveiled stricter visa requirements for skilled workers from overseas.
Mr Turnbull said the changes would ensure that migrants were better integrated into the community. "It is important that they understand that they are making a commitment to our Australian values," he said. What are the changes?
In explaining what constituted "Australian values", Mr Turnbull said migrants must demonstrate support for religious freedom and gender equality.
"Respect for women and children ... that is a key Australian value," he said, adding domestic violence would not be tolerated.
What exactly are 'Australian values'?
Other changes to the citizenship process include : A more stringent English language test involving reading, writing, listening and speaking;
Providing evidence of integration into the community, such as employment history, school enrolment or membership of community organisations;
Having already been a permanent resident for at least four years; Allowing applicants to apply only three times, and automatically failing anyone who cheats on a test.

epirb: Its more to do with curbing the rise of Pauline Hanson
One Nation may not quite be up to running a Government but people feel like she's standing up for their jobs and their towns.
Not everyone agrees with all her views.
Political analyst Geoff Cockfield is based in the regional Queensland town of Toowoomba, at the University of Southern Queensland.
He said One Nation could have more success in regional areas in upcoming polls, but warned they don't have much power yet.
"One Nation, even with a good Senate result, doesn't hold the balance of power in their own right so they are a player but they aren't the only player," Professor Cockfield said.
Senator Hanson has promised to curb Muslim immigration and ban the burka, but Professor Cockfield said that does not necessarily translate to political success.
I do beleive for any country who comes in should be vetted in the day and age of terrorists. I do not beleive in open borders. But we UK that is needs to take more refugees in a controlled way as people need humane help until they can go back to there homes when wars are over.
Also each country needs a certain amount of outside workers but surely not to the extent it takes work from our own makeing some bosses pay smaller wages to those coming in.
How to find a happy medium and force truths out from our governments. CORRUPTIONS

A country descended from ne'er do wells has higher standards than we do.. as if we can't afford to be as picky if not more picky than they are. Why does Europe have to be the land which will go with anyone?
