Mackerel is good too; and smaller fish contain less mercury, and dioxin.

I try to eat Salmon for its extreme heart health. I find Wild Alaskan canned fairly cheap and I can enjoy it with a little sour cream and avacado,pepper and lemon. So called Atlantic is just farmed and bad healthwise imo. Any recommendations for smoked Salmon ? Are the health benefits similar? How about fresh Sardines and anchovies. Anchovies aint cheap!

Canned food is not good either because of the estrogen-like substances that are released by the coating of the tins in the heating process.
I would avoid the canned food (in tins). I do canning of fruits and veggies in glass containers and BPA-free lids.
Fresh food is better but check the origen as you have pointed about the farmed fish.
On the Omega oils, a friend of mine just told me that a practical way of testing the Omegas is: to place the pills in the freezer and it should not solidify if it is really a good Omega. I have not done it and i will check that info too.

Hi I brought this subject back as you told the first time that Alaska did not have salmon. I had to check it out and was happy to say that Alaska does have 5 kinds I will only buy the wild salmon and hopefully it does not have as much mercury and dioxin.
King, must say that lately I am eating things that may not be so good for me but taste good. I am 80 years old so I say go for it girl, enjoy yourself

I enjoy eating salmon. It has a strange smell which reminds me of something else. I just cannot remember what it was though....

For the ones who need to boost their Omega intake and can not get marine protein of good quality and fair price, salmon oil pill are a good option and some brands state they are mercury free.
lifeisadream: It is good to get info about the food we eat without getting into a fear-paranoid state.
If we could grow our own produce that would be optimum otherwise just check the origen of your food and above all enjoy your food.
I wish I could grow my own food, as that would be the best. Must admit that lately I eat some food that is not sooo good but sure taste good. Why is that this kind of food taste better?
