My Mother always called me by my first name. Sometimes my Father would whistle for my Brother and me. Something he probably learned when he was in the U.S. Marine Corps.

My dad was a sci-fi fan, especially of John Norman's "The Women of Gor" series.
He wrote down on a receipt in his pocket the word "kalana" and decided if he had a girl that would be her name.
However, the linguist that my mom was, she added the "y" on the day of my birth to help with pronunciation. (My dad was absent due to travel.)
When my dad died, I found the receipt in his wallet.... dated 7 months before my birth...for a gun.
It's ok. You can call me a country hick.

My parent always teach us not call anybody by only their name, they said its not polite, especially to the elder.
