Butcher559: Some interesting comments on this thread, most things i have heard of at some time or another.
I started listening to Alan watts about 2 to 3 years ago and i couldn't get what he was on about until about 8 manths ago, after i ran into a good interpertation of a gnostic christian book.

I saw a comment on this thread saying that the ego is an on going work in progress, i think its an on going work to control the ego..
If you mean my post, what I said was exactly what you've said, it's an ongoing process to observe the ego and keep it in check.

"Recognising the power of the ego, (it could be called self examination) and it's, at times, its many self destructive forces upon the soul (psyche,) is at least providing a path towards a realisation of the true self and possibly a seismic shift away from the ego-self.

But it's always a work in progress."

smiley963: Your ego is your conscious mind, the part of your identity that you consider your "self." If you say someone has "a big ego," then you are saying he is too full of himself. (Google)

When someone say to you:

"You are gorgeous"
"You're very bright"
"You're very artistic"
"Your logic is great"
"I wish I was like you"

How do you react?
I have decided to dredge up this old thread, as it is sorely needed by some:

Yes Ego,
Some really have no idea how they are abusing their poor ego's,
and then it is widely denied, that it is the case...

People's,
Without your ego you are just a lump of flesh,
but with it you can climb all mountains,
however high, and swim rivers, however broad...

Google: If you have a weak ego, it means you get upset whenever your identity is challenged. If you have a strong ego, you adapt, adjust and keep moving. Ego is neither good nor bad, it simply is a part of you.

Reading both scenarios I feel like I have a healthy ego. I believe I deserve the best. That is not meaning materialistic. It means treatment from others. If you don't treat me well I remove you from my life. Who needs the negativity? Yet when people over compliment me I become uncomfortable. I went to a business meeting a while back and when I went to sit down someone asked how I was. I said fine and one of the males said yes you are. I decided to say thank you and move on. I took a moment to see the face of the other members. Everyone appeared uncomfortable laugh

smiley963: Now:

When someone say to you:

"You are ugly"
"You're very stupid"
"You're very dense"
"Your logic is atrocious"
"If I was like you, I'd jump off a cliff"

How do you react?
This makes me sad, only briefly. And not so much for me but for the person saying it.blues It must be horrible to have to say mean things to someone because your life is so negative. And since I don't like negativity....I move on.

The good part about it is I am ok with me. Call it ego or call it what ever. I do not have to stay around negativity, nor do I have to even give it a courtesy call. I have the choice to dismiss it and move on. Because I believe I deserve better.

I hope you are well my friend wave

I really don't understand people "begging" for accolades...

Stand on your own feet, you don't need it...

Approval from others, are really not required...

Be strong in yourself...
