I default to Inigo Montoya mode when I hear Democrats say that impeachment is "political" because I don't think that means what they think it means.

Impeachment is political in PROCESS, not in PREDICATION.

That means that impeachment must have a logical predication to proceed, not just a political motive and objective.

Impeachment falls outside the normal rules of jurisprudence simply because it is supposed to be "solemn and prayerful" (to borrow the Democrat's phrase" as it is the accusation, indictment and trial of "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States..." per Article II Section 4 of our Constitution.

In past impeachments of a sitting president, there have been clear predication - an act that is clearly defined. Andrew Johnson violated the Tenure of Office Act (which was later found to be unconstitutional - but it was in effect when he fired Edwin Stanton), Richard Nixon was not impeached (he would have been but chose to resign first) but was complicit in the Watergate break-in, and Bill Clinton perjured himself (on videotape).

The point being is that these impeachment actions, unlike the current effort to impeach President Trump, were based unambiguous actions - actual, defineble events - not an interpretation of a conversation backed up by satirical comments made over time (Trump joked about Russia and China having Hillary's emails and had stated that he would accept information from foreign sources if they proved illegal activity) and partisan, Deep State "witnesses" with little more than hearsay "evidence".

A "solemn and prayerful" approach would have been if they moved forward with solid, incontrovertible evidence of a "High Crime and Misdemeanor", not charges based on their ability to read the mind of a President.

Never mind that they have shamefully cloaked themselves in a founding document they actively work to destroy, and even though that is within their abilities, their rank partisanship has shown incredible disrespect for themselves, the Congress, the Office of the Presidency and the Constitution.

The way the Democrats have progressed the impeachment process IS solely for political advantage. Several Democrats have openly stated that if they can't impeach and remove the President, he is likely to be re-elected in 2020. Add to that Schumer's demands to add "witnesses" so the Senate Democrats can "Kavanaugh" the trial and try to finish the job the Unholy Triumvirate in the House couldn't get done.

Nothing more nakedly partisan than that.
