It's not just China. More people, more farm animals, more trading.
"A ratcheting up of viral virulence is happening in pig herds, too. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), a disease of pigs that was first described in the US in the late 1980s, has since spread to herds across the worldand strains detected recently in China are more virulent than the early American ones. A 2015 study carried out by Martha Nelson of the US National Institutes of Health and colleagues mapped the genetic sequences of swine flu viruses and found that Europe and the US – the largest global exporters of pigs – are also the largest exporters of swine flu." "That doesn’t let China off the hook. Two highly pathogenic forms of avian flu – H5N1 and H7N9 – have emerged in that country in recent decades."
Interesting article. Modern live and global trade has it's advantages with not only having cabbage and Brussels sprouts available in your local supermarket, but it has it's disadvantages as well.
AI_1984: Following a comment made by Dedo about “Illusion of safety”, I have noted that the authorities firstly described the virus as not very significant – no more than the mild flu – and then, over the days, they ratcheted up how serious it was and gradually increased the duration of the imposed lockdown and the severity of laws enforcing it.
Questions to be considered:
1. Many new restricted laws on our movement, but what about a “sunset clause”?
2. Why aren´t the laws harmonious throughout Europe?
3. Respirators: Each country is in competition with each other to purchase them from the manufacturer, causing a bidding war – a bigger profit for the manufacturer.
4. During the crisis – for hygienic reasons – payment is preferred by plastic, instead of cash. Is it another window for Big Brother to see us better?
5. Vaccines: Are they the cure or..... the problem? I have previously suggested in other blogs that they could very well be, with their cousin the Microchip, the mark of the beast!!???
6. During our solitary confinement, we are encouraged to seek solace by communicating over the internet, and so, baring our souls. Of course. It is not just your friends and family who will read it, but a computer!!! Don´t worry, they always forget everything!
For any of you still left with an inquisitive mind, I refer you to the Georgia Guidestones. Are they a Harbinger of things to come?
Feel free to discuss to your heart´s content
See you on the other side.
A lot of restrictions are sought by the population itself. I see that both in Ireland and Germany the population are asking each other to "stay at home". It wasn't taken serious by anyone (not the government and not the people) at the start, but seeing what is happening in Italy (more so than in China) has frightened people.
Totalitarian systems like China had more success in cracking down than a lot of Western countries where people are not used in being told what to do.
Elections have been postponed, countries assume emergency power - Putin is trying to indefinitely extent his presidency. Hungary's Orban also put in harsh state of emergency powers.
It might be hard for some countries to ease back on power they have accumulated over their citizens during this pandemic.
I was surprised how much people are looking for a totalitarian response from their government instead of simply applying common sense, staying at home and not seeing this time as a holiday and to go out partying.
Well, having a handle on their own kids would help - the police have to break off gatherings instead of parents keeping their kids inside.

I agree entirely with this! "People are not used to being told what to do",..

Well there is the Swedish method of doing the right thing anyway. As a high-tech collective of singletons who nevertheless support the community they are a good if not contradictory combination of living on your with considering other people.

Again, very true,! Especially in Spain where many don't respect nature (rubbish being dumped everywhere is a good example,!!!).. Don't respect each other either (noise!!) , or others property!
As for their kids, well...education should start at home with the kids, maybe, teaching their parents?
