blathin: My God, and given what Spain went through, all the deaths, the unimagainable famlies grieving the loss of loved ones...and those Brits just carry on as though nothing's happened..that's disgraceful..and I'm sorry MissCelaneous that ye have to put up with seeing that in your country...you;re right, they should hang their heads in shame...

We're experiencing something similar here, but on a much smaller scale...Americans and Brits coming here and not quarantining or showing any respect for our regulations...small businesses have started turning them away..and/or cancelling their bookings....and rightly so too....

germanspitz: Don't read me wrong ,I'm all for leaving and frankly we should never have joined in the first place but that's another matter.

I would just prefer it if we did it in a cordial manner with a trade deal in place to protect OUR interests. We will have too many delays striking deals the WTO if we leave without a deal and will end up in no man's land. Our economy has taken a huge hit of late and we need to get back on track without a further dip in our economy.
yes, I agree it seems the days of being civilised and cordial towards each other are well gone and I don't mean just the Brexit negotiatons either...I was watching parliment on BBC a few months ago and it was bedlam...theere was always a lot of heckling...but my God, it was like they'd totally lost the plot, I haven't seen it since so I dont' knwo if it's calmed down..but even the Ministers seem to have lost all decorum as well...

it's lucky ye didn't join in with the euro currency and change to metric though...Imagine trying to change back to sterling again, it'd be an even bigger nightmare..all those millions of cars too that would have had to change back to mph from kph, road signage...pricing..the list is endless..so staying with sterling was a wise move...

Yes it is a bit of a joke with some people. My friend here from S Ireland hasn't been able to get a flight back to Ireland. Her flights just kept getting cancelled. She's just gonna stay here now as her grandkids are due out in August with all the rigmarole filling out the forms online etc.. I think they will get here now God Bless Them. Another friend that managed to get a flight with Ryanair 3 weeks ago back to Ireland to be with his brother that was dying and in a coma over there in Ireland. He managed to get there. He landed back in Alicante yesterday. Some people just don't have any feelings for anyone anymorecrying

Yes, flights have been kind of on/off for the last couple of weeks alright. Ryanair's been doing it's damdest to sell seats but the government is telling everyone not to travel so ryanair's had to cancel 100's of flights again..

Everyone's so annoyed at Micheal O'Leary for trying to go against the governments no travel advisory too...a lot of people, me included are saying we won't use Ryanair again after what he's doing..but I do feel for people like your friend who need to get back home though.

Mind you, if she did come back she'd have to quarantine for two weeks as well, so maybe she might find it easier to wait in Spain for her family to go over. Two weeks in quarantine is no joke..and it'd be even harder for her doing it here knowing her family are just down the road and still can't see her , plus it's done nothing but rain this last two weeks as well..

Miss_Cellaneous: Was your comment directed at me? Mr Bacon? I'm stating a fact re Spain and the Uk tourists which you probably know nothing about. Maybe you should stick to trying to sort out out your Country. No offence intended.....
Hi Miss Cellaneouswave

The remark was made to me by the know it all sheeples from New Zealand namely Hexagonkeyset [though obviously not good at opening doors to decent conversation.] who thinks it's hilarious to name call women and even men on here . He's started attacking blathin in a more than derogatory manner which frankly is appalling . He has little or no respect and comes across as a misogynist .Sad that people can't have an opinion without being torn to shreds by the many male chauvinists on this site.

Like many on here he rants on and thrusts his thoughts down people's throats but I notice he hasn't bothered to come back and debate my response.

On line bullying, and yes that's exactly what it is , is rife and if you dare to challenge them their male hormones rage even more laugh

I've no doubt whatsover that once again my age will be the topic on conversation yet again. telling me to go do some knitting but it's better than counting New Zealand sheep as that really would be a nightmarerolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Yesterday I heard that only 33% of the dutch people from 40+ believe in the benefits of the EU. By younger people that's about 65%.

I simply thought the comment by Hexy was funny. Kind of describes UK and EU politics today and for once I agree with Tom. At least Hexy is not using Vacarro to attack members or two-faced like some. And I'm not a dog. Woof. Woof. I also didn't direct my message to anyone... again the comment was just funny as I said. You have yourself a nice day.

When I lived in London I stopped believing in the benefits of the EU when some official in Brussels ruled you could not sell a banana if it was the wrong shape.

Those who believed that complete myth (it was completely discredited later as fake news) used to be referred to as 'the bent banana brigade,' meaning a person who belive anything published in the tabloids.

A “shocking” amount of fruit and vegetables that are “perfectly good to eat” are being thrown away instead of making it to supermarket shelves for not looking the way consumers expect them to, according to research.

Each year an estimated 50 million tonnes of farmed fruit and vegetables grown in Europe is discarded for being the wrong size or misshapen, the research suggests, meaning more than a third of total farm production is lost for aesthetic reasons.

Researchers from the University of Edinburgh estimate that the UK makes up nearly a tenth of the waste,

BRUSSELS ? Misshapen fruit and vegetables won a reprieve on Wednesday from the European Union as it scrapped rules banning overly curved, extra knobbly or oddly shaped produce from supermarket shelves.

Ending regulations on the size and shape of 26 types of fruit and vegetables, the European authorities killed off restrictions that had become synonymous with bureaucratic meddling.

The rising cost of commodities also persuaded the European Commission that there was no point in throwing away food just because it looked strange.

As of July, when the changes go into force, these standards for the 26 products, as varied as peas and plums, will disappear. European shoppers will then be able to choose their produce whatever its appearance.

For 10 other types of fruit and vegetables, including apples, citrus, peaches, pears, strawberries and tomatoes, shape standards will remain. But items that do not meet European norms will still be allowed onto the market provided they are marked as being substandard or intended for cooking or processing.

“This marks a new dawn for the curvy cucumber and the knobbly carrot,” said Mariann Fischer Boel, European commissioner for agriculture, who argued that regulations were better left to market operators.

But not bent bananas...

"A Brussels ban on bendy bananas is one of the EU’s most persistent myths.

Bananas have always been classified by quality and size for international trade. Because the standards, set by individual governments and the industry, were confusing, the European Commission was asked to draw up new rules.

Commission regulation 2257/94 decreed that bananas in general should be “free from malformation or abnormal curvature”. Those sold as “extra class” must be perfect, “class 1” can have “slight defects of shape” and “class 2” can have full-scale “defects of shape”.

Nothing is banned under the regulation, which sets grading rules requested by industry to make sure importers – including UK wholesalers and supermarkets – know exactly what they will be getting when they order a box of bananas."
