The dumbest thing I ever did for love was put the house I was buying in "both our names" so that his ego would not be hurt by the fact the mortgage was obtained on my wages and I was paying the mortgage ….
Roll on 6 years and I handed over 50 000 because the house was in both our names when we split up

Something like that happened to my next door neighbour, only she died not leaving a will, but had got an English divorce 30 odd years ago and when divorce came to Ireland never legalised her divorce, she passed away from cancer and her ex came back and claimed his share of her estate. He walked away with €500,000 even though he was married with 2 kids in England.

as my granny had a saying “ fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!” Hindsight is an asset really.
