Miss_Cellaneous: Even though I couldn't play a piano as it's totally different to me as playing a keyboard. I think that I could try and yank up playing yanky doodle dandy solo but without the bottom keys If you have the feel for music. I know this may seem strange but give me a musical instrument and I can suss it out but tell me to draw something and I'm bloody hopeless. I couldn't even draw a matchstick man Give me a mouth organ "harmonica" a wooden recorder etc. and I could suss that out in no time at all. We all have our talents in different things
A keyboard is played the same as a piano..the only difference, I can think of, is weighted keys..... music is a good way to tune your spirit...no pun intended laugh

Miss_Cellaneous: I just got rid of every thing when I was in Spain. My xenix amplifier and all the other stuff. I just kept my keyboard and books. I just couldn't bring it all back to the Uk. I'm now starting out again. Lost all my recordings on SS but that's life. I had some brilliant videos's on SS but lost them all.
I highly recommend a mixer/amp that can record. They are becoming more common, just push a button and your session is recorded. Most mixers these days have usb that you can run to your pc and you can set up a program on your pc to record but its a process to do it compared to just pushing a button on your mixer and bang, its all running. If/when I need to replace my mixer, it is definitely going to have built in recording.

I heard of a study that found that people who are musically inclined don't have the same brain as others... others have, what is commonly known as, a left and right hemisphere...the study found that people who are musically inclined have a brain without left or right but, rather, used their whole brain.. suggesting that musicians are more intelligent than the rest of the peons ..

Sorry but I disagree. I can put my keyboard into "piano mode" and use it like a piano. I have 2 "split points" on my keyboard re chords. If you keep a key pressed, it will keep playing that note until you play another note, the same as the chords. A piano won't do that. I've only ever played "Chopsticks" on a piano lol.

Just set up my keyboard after 15 or more years. Had to buy "stickers" to tell me what notes they are lol. I'm a "novice" again crying but it will be fun learning againgrin

Shame my sister in law isn't here anymore God Bless Her. She got me into playing a keyboard. She used to play an organ at first and I got into it so I got a keyboard. then she bought the same keyboard as I bought. We used to have fun teaching each other songs. I had a tutor just to explain the timing of notes etc.

When she passed away suddenly aged 43, she had the music book "Phantom of the Opera" open with the song "Think of Me" which I was teaching her. Needless to say, this was played at her funeral. Long time ago now.
When I play my keyboard. I play each note as if someone was singing. That's just as it says in my music books

Mine was " It's Magic" courtesy of my late sister in law, but we "souped" it up and played it faster with a good backing on our keyboards grin

I bet they both got their love for music from you...

Mixing music (production) is no small challenge...it's quite an undertaking...it takes just as much of an ear as any musician..and arguably, could be more so...the greatest music producer there ever was, was George Martin..he wasn't called the fifth Beatle for nothinglaugh .... some of the things he pulled off were nothing short of amazing... especially with the limited technology he used at the time..for example: "strawberry fields" was done in two different sittings...the first, John Lennon said, no I don't like that...so they did another version..and John Lennon said, no, that's not quite right either...he asked George Martin to put them both together... Mr. Martin said, they're both in different tempo and tuning...John Lennon said, I know you can do it...uh oh laugh ...and he did !!!....there hasn't been a producer of his talent since, in my opinion...

Track16: If you are looking for a backing track for whatever instrument you play, just go to youtube, type in the song plus backing track. Most popular songs are there and its free. Great for practice when no one is around to jam with.
I've never played with a backing track.

I learnt piano for 8 years, mainly classical but in the latter years, contemporary. The sad part is my home is too small to accommodate a piano.

I guess if I have a passion, it would be music.

I can recall my Mum phoning me asking me if I wanted the family piano when they were shifting. I used to have sessions on it when visiting. I didn't have room for it at the time, so she sold it, and much to my horror, along with all the sheet music I'd accumulated over the years in the piano seat. I've still not really forgiven her for that...laugh

Because I can read sheet music, I transferred the chords to the guitar and self taught how to play, though strumming is not my forte.

I think the truly gifted musicians, are people who can play musical instruments by ear, ie they can hear a tune and immediately apply it to their piano, guitar etc. As hard as I try, I'm not able to do that, so without sheet music, I'm stuffed laugh
