Harbottle: I have been recomended to try meditation. I am told it will calm me down. The thing is though, I am completely incapable of sitting still. I have tried meditation a couple of times, but it doesn't induce calmness in me. Quite the contrary, in fact. It sets my nerves on edge, and puts me in a bad mood. Each time I tried, I had to stop because my thoughts started to turn towards violence. I think I put it down to my lack of spirituality; I am not spiritual. I'm not normally violent either, but that's what trying to be spiritual does to me.
I think that's what it is. Spirituality would drive anyone mad if they were perfectly sane.

Many of the most sane and balanced people I have ever met were residents of, or regular vistors to Buddhist centres and that includes lay people. It's quite remarkable really as the vast majority of people who look to Buddhism as a form of 'salvation' have come from some kind of troubled background, although you wouldn't know it without becoming aware of their history and background.

I don't envy you. hug

I watched a documentary about diet yesterday.

Apparently, the reason why arteries get clogged up is not from a high fat/cholesterol diet at all. It's carbs, sugars especially, which cause inflamatory damage. You're own naturally produced cholesterol then goes to the area of inflammation to repair the damage.

In the 60's, the push for high carb/low fat diets was less about health/weght loss than it was about getting people to eat the food that was being mass produced by big corporations.

If you use carbs as an energy supply for your climbs/cycles, it might be worth looking into swapping that for high fat foods which keep blood sugar levels steady and don't cause inflamation.

Not at all..I enjoy being single..I'm around all sorts of great men six to seven days a week..Since lockdown was lifted I'm rarely on the net and if I pop on the net it's for no more than 10 minutes..I sometimes do night classes..I sometimes go out to dinner or friends homes after work or they will come to my place..Sometimes we sleep at each others place..Sometimes my son picks me up after work to spend time with me..Once upon a time I would log on cs before bed to have a laugh and banter..CS no longer has the vibe nor atmosphere that I receive in the real world..I log on CS now & then to reply to mail from posters who no longer post or those who do post..I make very few posts these days..If I have nights of being by myself I read & for the first time since lockdown ended I sleep like a baby..I'm sizzling healthy..I'm very relaxed..I'm very happy & content...I want for nothing more..I have it all.

"You learn to resist acting on fear and anger through meditation, which helps you to see things in perspective, from a distance. You can be angry, but when you sit for a half-hour or hour in your angriness, you can ‘see’ your anger, your feelings but you’re also seeing that you don’t have to do anything about them."

But can't I arrive at the same position by just using rational thought, bod?

Dont try to....dont 'use' thought, dont let thought rule the roost. Just observe and let it be. There will be resistance to begin with, but with time and practice that will ease and eventually cease.
I remember a Buddhiat monk saying to me once. "With practise and concentration your thoughts will become your best friend instead of your worst enemy. If we hold this state of mind, we no longer suffer."

Every destination has many paths leading to it. I just made that up, but I would be very surprised if something similar wasn't to be found in Buddhist teachings. And if it isn't, it should be. I'm a bit of an odd ball, bod, I can only do things my own way; other peoples' way very rarely works for me.

Well I can't say I've ever made a serious attempt at meditation, but the bike riding is working wonders.

Nice to see you, Selenite. wine
