I object to you using emotionanally charged name calling to try and manipulate an otherwise reasonable discussion.I object when you use emotionally charged name calling to try and shut people up when they make some good points.
It's okay if people exist (and express themselves) who don't confirm your every belief. You don't have to stamp on them like they're scary spiders.

I just don't understand what he gets out of such petty victories.

jac_the_gripper: The best seminar I ever attended was by a female psychiatrist who advocated dealing with individual traits, or behaviours rather than trying to label people with psychiatric constructs.
And yet here we are, discussng a psychiatric construct and being subject to gaslighting techniques by a couple of fellas on this thread, rather than challenging inappropriate behaviours as they come up.
What I found with people who gaslight is that the challenging of behaviour does not work because they deny the behaviour and sometimes it's only on "replay" that you think OMG! What just happened there??!! . Usually they use all of the "tactics" on the list and the conversation goes round in circles. And yet here we are, discussng a psychiatric construct and being subject to gaslighting techniques by a couple of fellas on this thread, rather than challenging inappropriate behaviours as they come up.
I do believe that for other kinds of behaviours, dealing with individual traits is appropriate and specially when those traits are named.
I also think that a professional would be able to grasp immediately "what is going on" and recognise "the behaviour" and deal with the individual traits. But for non professionals, things are not so clear as they're happening and so dealing with the traits as the interaction is happening could be more difficult.

There is plenty of phenomena we know what means
without having to pluck it apart and put together again each time.
So seriously, why the academic language.
None here can or wanna live up to that anyway.

and you are often wrong. But your word constructs looks so good that most just give in.
You almost come across as invincible, right or not.
So if that fits the term gaslighting I can't say, but I'd go as far as calling it
'techniques' at a minimum. And the purpose is not to learn but to defeat.
Mikey and Galrads are your favorite 'victims'. They both big boys who can handle it
so no I'm not worried. But I do suspect that you know VERY WELL what you
are doing Jac. Perfectly well. And still you do it. Here homework;
YOU tell ME why. I already know but I'd love to see if you have enough
insight to admit why you go after these folks the way you do.
