I think the poor food quality comes from the polluted atmosphere in the northern hemisphere, with the 90 odd % of industry that happens up there..
My brother said the Mc Dee's in Europe isn't the same as NZ Mc Dee's, its taste like its been scraped of a worse floor than in NZ,, He said the Coke taste like it been mopped up off the same floor though.

No, I don't grow it but I always have some organic one in the house.
I try to get home grown food whenever I can.
I can't do anything about the soil quality though.
I do have some plants I grow in pots though..
Tomatoes, basil, thyme, rosemary, cilantro...
And a San Pedro cactus - gift from someone.

easy answer for me. i don't even like staying with relatives when i visit them. i generally get a motel or maybe a rental of some sort depending on how long the stay is expected to be. i keep a vrbo account. no idea if it goes international or not. i suppose if such a scenario ever happens, i'll have the luck of finding out. like a home away from home to a large degree.
the bigger question i consider to be? would i let them stay with me at my choice of rental if they chose? there is a two way possibility minimum here. by being away, it may also afford an opportunity for them to be away from their norms as well; of things go well.
the worries are potentailly the same. druggie? psychotic? alcoholic? organ harvester? black widow seeking another prospect? i'm certain there's a quite a list we could all make together full of negatives.
negatives are a possibility, not always or necessarily going to be the reality.

Usually I stayed at their place, I would look for a candidate that I could stay at her place instead
