Hi, my name is Tina nad I have just joined the site - today. I am about to head off to live in spain (costa blanca) and have joined the site to make new friends who have already made that move and hopefully find a spacial person to spend my life with there. I would like to invite any other ex pats that have moved to spain to post on here - maybe make new friends at least. :-)
Hi Tina, I am English and have lived in Spain for almost 3 years but I HATE the term ex-pat. I live in Murcia city centre and there are no British people so I have integrated fully into the Spanish way of life and made many Spanish friends.
If you are moving to an exclusively ex-pat area all I will say is PLEASE try to make SPANISH friends and learn the language. There are too many ex-pats taking over areas in Spain and expecting everything to be exactly like Britain, with sun.
The International Forum is fun but you may find more friends on the European Forum, there are more members who live in Spain posting there.
Hi Jan and thanks very much for the info. I am heading for Hondon Valley so not so far from you. I hope to purchase property in and around the Alicante to Murcia areas. To be honest I dont normaly use the term ex pats but so many people refer them them by that name - hence the use of it on here but I do take your point on board. I intend to learn spanish when i arrive and understand that there is a free 3 month course for british people wanting to live in spain - and unfortunately i will still have to work so where i live will dependant upon the job I can secure :-(
I will take a look at the site you suggested, thank you.
I hope I can settle in spain as well as you have .... nice to meet you Jan
Wow so many welcomes .. its lovely and it has made me feel very welcome. there are to many posts to reply to individualy .. so thank you ALL who messaged me I hope this tread lasts a long time :-)
It was a spur of the moment thing for me - I have heard the live in spain is much better than the uk ... it remains to be seen.. I dont speak spanish so it will depend on how easy it is to find work in spain without it ....
Hi, good decision to make moving to spain. I moved here bravely living inland where learning the language is a must..Getting on well with many spanish friends, like it here because you can go out with spanish female friends without any complications.I live in Salinas, a village of 3000 people, extremely quiet so when finished work I can relax. Steve Good luck
