Good morning everyone,

How do you feel about your body now that summer is approaching? Do you try to improve your imagine to look better at the beach?

I am working out an hour everyday, drinking 2 litres of water to get rid of all the toxins and eating lots and lots of fruit and vegetables. Hope this tones me up!! Any suggestions?

Hi Nicolas, True people should look good all year round but I always focus more on it at this time of year. It's obvious you can't make miracles in 2 - 3 months so good eating habits and exercise should carry on all year round. I am sweating buckets at the moment, so I guess I'm on the right track banana

The Big Secret to Life .... NEVER wear anything with an Expandable Waist.... it lets you fool yourself that you not putting on weight!

I see very fat girls trying to run, to lose weight, and I feel so sorry for them.... I have to exert strict self-control to not interfere.... They just turning their nice soft fat into nice hard muscle!

First lose the fat, then tone the muscles! You lose fat by cutting down fattening foods. You tone the muscles by stretching and lifting medium weights slowly... not anything painful.

Something a lot of people find hard to believe... but when you trying to cut out your over-eating and you feeling "hungry"... drink a HUGE glass of water... it works to kill that ghost-hunger. And keep drinking those huge glasses of water, inbetween snacking on raw stuff. Most times your body is just thirsty, not realy hungry.

Thank you for your suggestions. I fully agree with Smoky, drinking water is a good tip, besides the body needs a lot of fluid to get rid of all toxins, and the skin also looks nicer with a good water intake.

However I cannot agree with constanza, when I tried that I ended up getting weak...carbohydrates in moderation are good because the body needs sugars unless you're diabetic, and rather than having sweets that rise your sugar level fast and disappears fast, carbohydrates work like a log slowly burning, giving you the energy you need. That is why most people say that when dieting they have no energy.

I only weigh 50kgs so I do not need to starve myself, I just need to tone up a bit and i'm getting there. I am working on reducing the fat percentage in my body, I wouldn't mind gaining more on the scale as long as it's muscle not fat!

A bit of a strange question ...in a bit of a strange location, but reading this suddenly made me wonder about where do Maltese go for vacations, as many want to escape to an island, I would imagine you do not wish to simply go to another island; where do you head for...Europe or Africa, which is more popular?? %)

Agree to all of that BUT its IMPOSSIBLE to turn the fat in your body to muscles!!! Lots of people believe that, but its so so wrong!!!Simply because they are two completely different types of tissue, consisting of two very different kind of cells!!! And believe me I have studied this, I am a biologist...

You can loose your body fat by cutting down the fattening foods, use olive oil instead of butter (2-4 teaspoons a day for a diet), and do aerobic excersice (meaning exercise that "burns" fat, like jogging, walking, swimming, bikeriding, dancing, etc.) because that kind of exersice will in general speed up your metabolism....if on top of that you lift medium weghts, you will have the best effect on your figure!!!!

Its a lot of effort, but worth it...cheering

Very true...well said Smoky thumbs up

From personal experience I have noticed that when I starved myself, the body notices the lack of eating and therefore stores everything you do eat. If for example I added a simple croissant to the daily intake, I would notice a change in weight over 2 weeks. Now that I am exercising I am eating more (healthy food only) and still not putting on weight.

I was never "big" except of course while pregnant, but till now I feel that I was only destroying my metabolic clock by starving myself and not moving...not to mention all the dizziness and lack of energy!!

I really cannot imagine you being "big" Smoky, but WELL DONE for getting the shape you have now.

What you need Smoky is more fish:

That is why Eskimos are healthy and live longer...they eat more fish.

a good diet....50% carbs, 35% protein and 15% fat....eat five times a day......no heavy meals and not many carbs before bedtime....your water intake is good and if you really want to put on a little weight cut down to day on and day off training regime......maltese diet is great in summer..melons..fish.....tomato's salads etc......I stay the same shape all year round through walking by the sea...swimming etc
