This girl sounds like she is in an abusive relationship, and typical of that situation, she believes she cannot live without this man.... The typical "Abused person syndrome". He will most probably have undermined her self-confidence to the extent that she believes he is all she is worth.

If one can divorce oneself from the intimacy of the friendship with her, and view it from a distance ... and just be honest as it appears to you, if their relationship is truly something they both cherish, then they can handle your criticism of it. .... whatever works for them works.

It is just another "Alcoholic" type story .... you can`t hide from reality.. better to be open about it. Is this normal conduct? Doesn`t sound like it. The man wants to lie around like his ancestors did in the 1500`s while his women built the home and tilled the land, and he lay under the big tree smoking, talking man talk to his buddies, and then going off hunting now and again when the clan needed meat.....and this guy is not even doing any hunting to justify his existence!

Okay, I am old and come from another generation where women did not go out to work, we stayed at home, did the housework, raised the kids, and stretched the budget to fit the income ..... so I am probably a bit biased here. But, I am viewing the new generation and seeing that unless one of the partners is a High Earner ..... both members go out to work every day.

So, this man is not in the Sought After category of employees, and scoffs at odd-jobs .... seems he thinks he has found someone to not only provide him with bread, but to butter it as well. Tell the girl she if foolish and to get her life into gear while she still has time.
