For me the hard part isn't the blood it's seeing people die. I used to b a Nurses Aide in a Nursing home. I would get so close to the residents and when they would die it would be like losing a grandparent. I was still able to do my job a get thme cleaned up, but after I had to go out back for a few minutes and cry it out a bit.
I read about 2 books per week on average. Anything ranging from horror, to classic lit, to science, to conspiracy stuff, to philosophy, sci-fi, fantasy. And I just met someone who works for a book store, so I'm like.. in heaven:)
I had a very similar problem and finally came to the conclusion that my brain get's bored when reading. My solution was to increase the speed at which I take in information, by developing a scan reading technique - forcing myself to keep up concentration.
In scan reading I do not read sequential but scan for keywords en then fill in what I do not grasp immediately. When I understand I immediately move on. It did wonders for me and opened up a whole world of information. I still cant read fiction - it bores me out of my mind.
Another thing that helps a lot is if I find some common ground with the author. Because of this I like reading material predating 1960. I find that the writing style of the era appeals to me.
CG I really hope this helps you because I understand your frustration.
