Not criticising but curious.
By young I mean under 30. Why aren't you out having a great time?
I have 2 unmarried kids in their late twenties who wouldn't dream of joining a dating site, they have great lives going out and meeting people in the 'traditional' way.
Ok, I´m nearly 30. But I life in a little town, only all few weeks an event, the taverns closing at 10 pm in the week and at 12 pm at the weekend. Then i go to work, sometimes on the weekend too.
And I think, to join a dating site is not only for meet a guy, I think it is a good way to meet people from all over the world, make friends and exchange ways of life of other countrys.

I don't think shyness prompts young people to think, oh I'll join a dating site, and kids? Well, my daughter has friends who are single parents and they too wouldn't join a dating site preferring to go out and meet real people of their own age. In the real world MOST 20 odd year olds wouldn't dream of flirting with somebody over 40 which happens here. It's a little uncomfortable for me at times watching it and I've spoken to many young people who agree with me.
And as I said, I wasn't criticising, just curious.
Incidentally, my family live in Southampton and there's a good nightlife to be had there. Where in Southampton do you live?
By the way, if i was in 'my' country, the US or the UK, i MOST probably wouldn't be on a dating site.
I'm an african girl in Finland for crying out loud!!! At one time i attended a college in Northern Finland with only 5 black students! My point is NOT that i am looking for a black man, it's that Finns aren't as familiar with forigners as others. What's more, the main languages here are finnish and swedish, none of which i can keep up with! I refuse to settle with or date a finnish man just because i'm in Finland. They have their culture and i have mine and only i can decide what kind of man i want in my life.
I'm not going to sit at home feeling sorry for myself, i go out when i want to ( i had a blast last night) and will have my fun on a dating site as i want to.

Flirting in the threads? Not sure what you mean there.
And I never used the word 'should'.
I'm not saying there is a right or wrong way of meeting somebody, my question was posed out of curiosity. Having kids in their twenties and being a teacher means I am in touch with young people, and I can honestly say I have never met anybody of the age group I mentioned who are remotely interested in dating sites.
Well hate to break it to you but traditions are gone and we have many young beautiful people on this site, just not on forums.
I also prefer men over 30 ( note to self to change the limits from 28-35 to 30-45) Guy under 30 aren't focused enough for me and most of the time the bonding is rarely intellectual.
Now when i'm dating a man and he's talking about taking exchange studies in Chile for a year or going around the world to 'see' things, i automatically register there being no place for me in their lives. Lived through the ephemeron and looking to more stability and security.
I have dated guys over 35 infact and didn't meet them on dating sites.
Not stopping now, not while i'm still living here anyway.
Ive ask myself the same thing many times. Every time I see an attractive "kid" post I just want to slap them and say "WHY ARE YOU HERE. GO OUTSIDE" I mean thier young and hot just look outside....

It always amazes me to see young people here.
