Would you consider a relationship with somebody who held a special place in their heart for their first love...they just couldn't help it, this first love was indelibly etched upon their heart.

How would it make you feel on setting out on the relationship journey with them?

I don't think there's anything wrong with a fond memory. An irreversible attachment, or an unwillingness to let go, might be a tad problematic.

Once it was only a memory they held onto and not the love they once did for this person (meaning they knew they wouldn't hook up again) then yes I would consider having a relationship with them...everyone has a past but once it remains it the past then everyone deserves a future also...

It would make me nervous. I mean, maybe I could never live up to the memory of a first love. It's hard to compete with the past.

No....get over the other person, before you tackle a new one. Not fair, knowing you may eventually leave for the other person. Might be different if the relatinbship ended due to a death.

I have a special place in my heart for my ex-husband, we were together for many years and I met him when I was just 16. I'm not in love with him, but I can't forget the love we had nor the years we were together. We also have two beautiful children, long flown the nest, but they will always bind us.

We are fortunate that neither of us hated each other when we decided to part, nor had we hurt each other to such an extent that we didn't want to see or speak to each other again.

Having said that, it doesn't mean that I haven't been able to love again, I have. It will always be different though, few people actually forget their first love, but it shouldn't lessen the love in any future relationship unless they truly haven't got over it.
