Xmas is near, and it's that time when we become sentimental, remembering when we were children and the magic that it held. I remember being 8 yrs., old. My dad was in the hospital, Xmas dinner was mashed potatoes and nothing else. It didn't matter, I was 8. There are some on this site that are experiencing financial difficulties and at this time of year these troubles are magnified by the very nature of what Xmas has become. If you are Christian, then you know that Jesus was born in a stable. None of us here will spend Xmas in a stable, maybe close to it, yet warm and dry.

If you are alone this Xmas. If you can't enrich Wal Mart. If you are sad for the way things used to be, remember the original celebration, the birth of a human who changed the world.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in one's self - why me? Why isn't my Christmas the Norman Rockwell painting? Why? Why am I alone on the holiday?

Hell, I whine about it. Over the last five years, I've had a very tough time during this period. Whine, sniffle, whine.

Thank you for a most well-stated transcendence Leo.

Its hard not to remember Christmas Past. Its hard to know that this Holiday which is known for bringing family together, cant when family is gone. Its hard to know a childs face wont light up when they dont have any gifts.

Your words ring true Paws.....but Christmas has become alot more. Unfortunately its part of this evolving and changing world. Of course we as adults can understand and my children know the true meaning of Christmas.....but and yes..there has to be a but....there are other things that have become accustomed too!!

Christmas morning we will attend services, we will be happy to have friends and family in our lives and we will celebrate the true CHRISTMAS....

I am happy to have good health, a warm place to sleep and food on the table....but young kids just dont have the ability to understand that those are what is important...they know that wrapping paper means presents!! Luckily mine are older....only one who still believes in Santa...and Im not ready to take that away from her!!hug

Some of us are a Bob Cratchit, with a Tiny Tim child. The Charles Dickens' story should have taught us something.

While I do believe Jesus was a real person, there is a story behind his reason for god being immortalised as a man.

The reason for creating Jesus as living suffering and dying and then being resurrected, was to save mankind from himself.

Belief in God was not enought to save people. That is why Jesus was created in the human form, and at the same time maintaining the Image of God.

That is to say that Human beings can relate more to another human being than they can an entity like god.

The do gooders of society were smart to have created this idea, because it makes religion "more close to home".

Because people relate to everyday troubles, they relate to Jesus, who is the lifeline to god. It is easier for people to talk to a human god, than a god entity. GET IT.

I could go on. But I think you get the picture.

though we never had Christmas in USSR. But a New Year was not just about presents and filling stomach. It was time to recolect what has been done during past year and to think on a new plans for a coming.

Time for personal solitude

Well said Leohug
