I'm never afraid to to offer an opinion, but I do occasionally bide my time if I think my comments will rock the boat too much if the posters are of like minds and unwilling to discuss things sensibly.
This is something I've learned to do over a period of time here on CS having seen some of my posts completely misinterpreted. I readily admit though, I'm not always successful in staying out of the fire!

It surely takes guts to speak your opinion on a hot or controversial topics. But we are free people and i think we are obligated to epxress out thought in the public. In a civilized way of course, and try to avoid being heretic. Nice thread mbcasey!

Yes there are certainly a lot of polls in the forum since i've been here last!! As regards to the controversy, I wouldn't mind. I would state what I believed in, as they are my values after all. I would respect other people's views and on voicing my opinion I would expect others to respect me back. But it wouldn't be the end of the world if they didn't... what works for others might not work for me.

I will normally just sit back and read what others have to say about everything, then if I think something needs to be said, I will say it weather its before or after the shi* has hit the fan!! As you found out earlier!! Wow was that crazy!!

I have noticed an interesting phenomena concerning people offering opinions that are controversial. Most people will wait for another person to offer their opinion 1st, then they will post afterwards. It takes some guts to be the initial poster... you may be ridiculed off the site!!
Question...are you an outspoken advocate for your opinions, or do you wait until the coast is clear to make your opinion known?
