You wouldn't believe the crap I have heard over the years! And I have heard it all! I have some very funny stories, though...most of them from when I was in the U.S. Air Force many years ago. Aaahhh, there have been some great ones along the way. I used to hate my name when I was young, but I am well used to it now and feel that it is a part of who I am. Our names can sometimes shape us a bit; I guess mine toughened me up a little (like Johnny Cash's "Boy Named Sue"!) It's definitely a conversation starter, if nothing else!
It's easier to say that I was named after the taxi driver who delivered me when my Mom didn't make it to the hospital on time (and Dad was enroute from work).... BUT... the truth is that I wasn't named after anyone. People like to believe a story like the one I just gave, but there is no story whatsoever!
Now I am off to be. Goodnight, Claire! (By the way...I LOVE your name!!) And goodnight all. Goodnight moon.
From what I have heard, Douglas is Gaelic for "dark water". Maybe some of you Irish lasses can confirm or correct that one. I think the modern translation is "handsome, shy guy who doesn't have a date for Friday night."
