My ex-husband was a nice man in many ways but incredibly needy. Could not stand to be alone. If I had actually had a penny every time he offered me a penny for my thoughts I would be incredibly wealthy!

I don't know how to describe this , but I will give it a try, I think I am needy to be needed to help the friends in my life. Ib never care what I get back (EVER), I just want to do and sometimes that is smothering, BUT, I started dating a person about 5 years ago and he was so freaked out that he was afraid to mention anything he needed. My other friends just said that is the way Arlene is. So what am I??? I believe the less you have the more you give! So what am I??? I need to be needed I guess. For me---I don't feel needy of anyone or anything. NOW CHEW THIS ONE TO DEATH!!!!

I loathe those types that begin to deteriorate from being a admirable partner to a ball and chain because their needs become so demanding and time consuming.
You hope, you fight to maintain faith that its just a phase a a progression period to a improved relationship....only to watch as they dwindle away to a basket case. Them thinking that forfeiting their life and hobbies and past times is the most admirable sacrifice/gift they have to offer.
It's pitiful,what attracted you to them they discard so readily.
yeah I seen it and everytime I do it makes me shudder

I'm the needy partner. I admit it. I'm obsessive, possessive, over bearing, smothering, suffocating, and a tad bit jealous.
But to make myself feel better about it, I convince myself I'm really good in bed.
Just kidding.
About the convincing myself part.
No seriously.
I'm a needy person.
But I give as much as I need.
And I compromise as much as I need to.
And in general, I do as I'm told.

I don't remember (since a teenager) anyone dumping me. WE are all cool with everthing, because I need them as friends and apparently they need me. It truly is a good thing.

Arlene To fireliter I would like to say that I do understand his point about the dynamics in relationships sometimes changing into something negative; that is when I would make every effrot to corrcet things; after all I did love and afmire him and I will try my best to be his friend and not an enemy; I know love sometimes makes people do silly things epsecially when it is misunderstood or lost in translation, but by its very nature true love is enduring and it bears good and bad.

some want total dependence
some expect other to sacrifice
some need to be wanted
some want their needs to be met.
all acceptable paterns for true love to flourish and grow.
yet its when 2 are of conflicting ideas its hard to change them and even harder sometimes to become what they need or want.
have heard many here and on the streets say they would not change after they found a good woman or good man...Change is constant and as the old saying goes when the changes begin, " the Honeymoon is over."
