blue_eyed_blonde: or any other of your organs and be an organ donor???

I was just watching Oprah and part of the show was about organ donors...It showed the families of the donors as well as the recipents, it was so awesome to see the family of the donors as they met the person who their loved saved or helped. It just made me realize that I made the right decisions a few years back.

Imagine what a gift that would be to give of yourself to allow another to go on after your time has passed. The gift of a heart...
I made that decision 3 years back to donate my organs when that time comes. Just a thought....

thumbs up

Yes, I would, too.

I could help someone on that way.

you have no idea?...you started yesterday and continued on today playing this "game" and never bothered to tell who you were..even when i asked you to stop you continued, even then you didnt bother to tell me who you were...

tell me why would you do that??? I would normally say im thank you for the "crush feelings", but am more concerned of the loss of trust at the moment.

From Texas Health and Safety Code

§ 692.005. PERSONS WHO MAY BECOME DONEES. (a) The
following persons may be donees of gifts of bodies or parts of
bodies:

(1) a qualified organ procurement organization, for
distribution to another person who may be a donee under this
section, to be used for transplantation;

(2) a hospital or physician, to be used only for
therapy or transplantation;

(3) a bank or storage facility, to be used only for
therapy or transplantation;

(4) a person specified by a physician, to be used only
for therapy or transplantation needed by the person;

(5) an eye bank the medical activities of which are
directed by a physician;

(6) a forensic science program at:

(A) a general academic teaching institution, as
defined by Section 61.003(3), Education Code; or

(B) a private or independent institution of
higher education, as defined by Section 61.003(15), Education Code;
or

(7) the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas.

(b) Except for donations to a forensic science program under
Subsection (a)(6), the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas shall
be the donee of gifts of bodies or parts of bodies made for
education or research, which are subject to distribution by that
board under Chapter 691.

(c) A forensic science program that receives a donation
under Subsection (a)(6) must submit a report to the Anatomical
Board of the State of Texas on a quarterly basis that lists:

(1) the number of bodies or parts of bodies the
forensic science program received; and

(2) the method in which the forensic science program
used the bodies or parts of bodies for education or research.

Notice all the people who are eligible to receive what I donate, that are not in dire need of a transplant. Why should doctors, and organ procurement facilities, and universities, medical research companies, make money off of our charity and good will? The law says they can.

It is perfectly admirable, and compassionate for you to feel that way!

Money shouldn't be the dominant factor!

It is though, and that's got nothing to do with your decision, unless you get a lawyer to specifically spell it out in a will.

They don't tell you about all the people who are denied even the opportunity for a transplant procedure, because such procedures would be a loss of profit for an insurance company. So they get to die, and your heart may or may not go to somebody who needs it, but you can be sure that it won't go to waste. Someone is going to make a buck off it.

Ever see the movie John Q, or the documentary film Sicko by Michael Moore?
