Second; many years ago Sparrow hawks in the uk became a protected species due to dwindling numbers. A few decades of protection sorted the problem out and the population of sparrow hawks increased. Guess what, when sparrow hawks went into decline the sparrow population increased massively. Now the Sparrow hawks are doing well.....sparrow population is decreasing. It,s not only humans who cull other species.

A cautiously worded government statement given to reporters Monday says culling elephants will be "an option for management of growing populations." The government notice is to be published on Friday.
South Africa's elephant population has ballooned from 8,000 in 1994, when the government banned killing the mighty beasts to control the numbers, to more than 20,000.
