Me personally I try to end the conversation as quickly as possible and sometimes I hold my breath or try to turn my head and hope someone calls me on my cellphone so I can take the call.

I usually kind of do the same as you... hold my breath.. try to only breath throo my mouth (tho that freaks me out bcoz then I worry I'm TASTING it)
Turn my head away a bit more.. step back.. only breathe in when I turn my head away.. (so i DON'T have to taste it too)..
