How do you know, in any given situation, if what someone is telling you or if the information with which you are being presented is true?

We all run on a lot more trust than we realize. Think about it how many scientific advances are actually only theories, ideas, estimates and assumtions? Take carbon dating, its a "close aproximation". Listen to the wording of scientific minds next time. A lot of "we think....aproximatly....we believe it might be...our best guess....etc" Not nearly as much is as certain as some seem to think...

A lot of what we think is fact, scientific fact, is actually theory.
BeautifulEri: Its called intuition ...but humans don't seem to pay ANY attention to it....
true
but sometimes you need faith, no matter what the outcome, nothing ventured, nothing gained is a good philosopy, but only if you can grow stronger from disappointment, rather than growing bitter i do however depend on vibes, usually a good sense with me
Portiea: Do you always rely on intution--is that like gut feeling?
Its is a gut feeling, and I try to, you know what's funny? Think about this...you meet someone, friend or foe, and your guts tell you certain things about this person, but somehow you DON'T pay attention, time after that LIFE shows you the FIRST thing you felt what's the correct one.....have you ever had this? We just don't pay attention....

One thing is I NEVER expect anything from anyone...so whatever comes its a gift....

Ill give u a clearer example , if u want....
Yea, I've had this happen and later ask myself why didn't I pay attention to my initial gut reaction to this person.

Ah, there's multitudes of physical signs of people lying that can be identified.I just cant type another long post!
Most interesting one is when you ask a question watch the eyes, and depending which direction they look in you can tell if their accessing memory or imagination.
There's loads of them actually if you know what to look for.

What about the government, media...schools, scientists, how do we know what is true? Do we just take it on faith? Looking into their eyes or relying on body language doesn't apply
in today's world, it is difficult to believe all that is fed us. Especially if it involves governemnts. One must certainly read between the lines there.
Something may be true, but not fully explained as well. For example, we read in the papers some years back, that mercury was discovered in tuna. Mercury is not disposed of by the human body, and therefore it accumulates and eventually kills u. Ergo, panic on eating tuna.
What was not said was that the amount of mercury was such, that one would have to eat tuna every day for approximately 50 years for it to be lethal.

I take anything said by a politician or the media as BS automatically! Then figure out what the truth is, if it's really important to me personally.
I have to admit I treat learning institutions and science in the same manner to and extent as well.
They're all trying to market an ideal or a line of thinking that may in actuality have little to do with truth, but moreso their own agenda.
I trust my gut instincts and intuition and my BS meter works fairly well, although at times wishful thinking can over ride even common sense.

True. It really depends on what the government, media, schools, etc usually tell us. I make my own conclusions after making sure I have all the facts right..
