You know those "Super Body" Hi-Tec Gyms? ... where you got to sign on for a minimum of 6 months, or get a discount for a years membership ....... AND IF YOU HAVE ....... Did you stick to the regime the instructor set for you? ... or did you give up?

How long did you last going minimum 3 times a week? and if you did give up, WHY DID YOU GIVE UP?

If you did not give up ...... WHY NOT?

I agree here. Personally I would never waste the money joining a gym. After the schlepp of getting there, waiting in line to use fancy equipment, breathing in everyone`s deep exhales, then lining up for communal showers and fighting for a hairdryer, then schlepping back home again ....... I rather go for a long brisk excercise walk thru the farmlands here - or an extra long bicycle ride IN THE FRESH AIR!

Garden work, and running up and down the staircases in a 3 story house doing housework, and about 30 - 50 sit ups a day works for me .... and its FREE! I can spend what I save on ... Beer!cheers jackolantern

I would tend to disagree. We all need to join a gym. If not we are unhealthy. Not joining one is a sign of not caring about oneself.

I think you own a gym, dont you? wink

But seriously .. is it not just Excercise ... cardiovascular, muscle, strength, that is important to maintain?
So if you sit at a desk all day, or are generally not involved in a lot of physical work, then I agree that a gym workout is good.

But ..... Do people, after paying all that money for their Contract ... stick to it?

Wrong!! Or may be you are right for poeple who sit on their bumbs all day in an office then spend all day watching tv at the weekend ...

As caring for oneself, there are many people I know who religiously go to the gym then guzzle down many pints of beer and stuff themselves with junk food!!! As far as I am concerned a balanced diet and active life is way more important than joining a gym

The equipment in a gym is selected to give your body an overall workout that other forms of exercise such as gardening do not. Lots of activities require effort and this effort is usually healthy. However, for an overall regime in which the effort is concentrated in a meaningful way, there is nothing equal to a gym.

People stick to anything when reward is equal or greater than effort.

Ok you are probably right BUT nevertheless, gyms became a necessity of modern life when people started leading "unhealthy" lives with little exercise and poor diets ...

My grandmother lived till the age of 90 odds and was very strong and healthy apart from the very last few years but I garanty she never set foot in a gym

PS going to the gym expands your social life as well, and your business life. The person who is now my business partner I met through somebody used to see at the gym.

At first on some of the machines ten kilos was a lot to pull repeatedly. However within a few weeks I was pulling a lot more; 20,30,40,50,60....

Of course you don,t have to increase the weights or try to be Arnie. Some people just stick to tens and increase number of times they lift. Depends if you want to get muscles or just improve/maintain your general level of fitness.

In the end I,m with Q man on this one.thumbs up

I agree absolutely! There is only one animal that Needs excercise, and that is the Human animal! All other animals Know the Right Food to eat (in nature), and if you look at the Cheetah, Leopard, Lion, buck, even a rhino (and others of course)- they keep fit using only stretching!.. otherwise they spend their time lying around dozing or eating. But if their diet is poor, they get unhealthy and fat. Similar to household dogs who live and eat like humans!

FlowerOfTheSun: Problem solved!!! Supermarket shelves should be set on runners that whiz around the supermarket and all the customers have to run to grab their food!!!!! Now if they had really high sided trolleys and also put the really heavy stuff high up the running shelves that would cover the weight lifting side of things ...

Oh ... like a "SUPERBODIES SUPERMARKET" ....Where only the FIT do their shopping!
