ttom500: I am going to address, Shot3743, Vonney, and Foreveryoung in this post.
Shot when you finished that conversation with your wife, on your daughter use of birthcontrol, you looked around the bar and you were likely pretty happy that none of your regulars were within ear shot of the conversation, yes? Both to protect your daughter's reputation and the talk in the coummunity it would cause.
The Palin's family, including Bristol, made a family decision to have this baby. They could have done it under the covers.....eg. sent here to some far place where the local community and now the entire world is not know. They could have hid it just as you would not have liked the birthcontrol becoming public.
They did not do that. So what does that say to you?
Says to me, that here is woman with her political career on the line. And she will not hide anything in her life and is being totally open and transparent......to secure that career.
Vonney, Foreveryoung,Shot.....I would call that intrigrity and character.
Being in Europe you might call it something else.
But it goes with our philosophy of honesty and forthrightness in our country.
The country and the world are going to ask questions about this for a long time. It seems to me the Palin family has already answered them when they made this complete and open disclosure.
If that kind of openess and full transperancy is not a complete change in what occurs in Washington, or in your capitols, then you don't see the remarkable change that the McCain/Palin ticket is bringing her in the US.
perhaps it would have been more diplomatic to ask why?
jbibiza: Wow.... harsh. I thought we had gone past that whole stoning thing....
Some people don't understand what vetting is and is not. They make a moral judgement on any information and any one that seems out their definition of right and wrong.
Nice pick up jbibiza...I have been waiting for some one to say that. Being a man, I did not think it was my place to say anything to her.

jbibiza: In this day and age, no matter how much money you have.... if you are in the public eye you can´t hide anything for long... so no, I don´t think it makes them honest.... it just makes her smart.
Supporting and loving my daughter... no matter the circumstances would come before any job opportunity and I would never even consider shaming her by trying to hide something in order to advance my own career.
So no... it wouldn´t be a hard statement to share with him.

I am sorry jbibiza. I don't buy it. Wealthy people that have family situations hide them all the time. For what ever reason. You might not, and surely the Palins did not. But please don't tell me that is does not occur. Because I know of personal cases where it has been done by executives, college professors, and othes.
By the way Sarah Palin did not say that she did not love her daughter.
What I am also saying....is that had Bristol choosen a different choice here....I bet Sarah Palins would have been just as forthright as you would be.

and if you knew how many others new as well...
...and those people don´t have teams of people looking and searching for every scrap of information about them and anyone connected to them. Once in the public eye we´re talking reporters and people from the opposition searching for anything and everything... the sudden "disappearance" of a candidates child is not going to be noticed??? Someone, a nurse, cleaner, etc. isn´t going to make good on an opportunity to cash in with a well placed tip to the media? The second that poor girl dropped from sight the speculation would have run rampant... poor Chelsea couldn´t even experience a kiss in private.

And if your daughter says to you...I don't want this to be made known or public. It is our family secret, OK Mom?
jbibiza, there is a lot angles that come into play here. We don't know the position or the confidnetially our family members will ask of us.
jbibiza, you got to know that parent/child relationship is the one that most loving parents would die for. That is a promise that they will keep to the grave if they make it.
All Bristol or any mothers daughter would have to do is ask for theat privacy and most parents would be saying yes.
By the way, personally. I think that if asked for. It should be given.

If that were the case then I would remove myself from the public eye so she wouldn´t be in the position of having it exposed.
The longer this thread goes on the more irritating it becomes. Those who sit in moral judgement on others all the time are claiming great virtue in the Republican camp because - for sound political reasons - they released this bit of private information.
I can see why they had to do it but that doesn't give them any high moral ground. The idea that this is a party political issue is a joke.
Underneath all this stuff is a 17 yr old with problems and decisions. It is a private matter and really should be left to her and her family.
I think it is some kind of tactic going on as Mcain knows our values have changed in our society and in my opinion he is trying to show his human side. I dont agree with this, I think society should look at what we are showing our children and realize that the more we accept the more its going to happen. Yes these things happen but I dont want my six year old daughter growing up thinking that it is OK to be 17 and pregnant

I disagree we have every right to know everything about the people that choose to be our leaders they put themselves there and know that people look up to them and they should set good examples

Fair enough. But this girl isn't a politician and has the right to her privacy!

Then you bring her up that way and hope that she never finds herself in that situation but a politicians daughter being pregnant at 17 is not going to send the message that it is ok.

And is she not setting a good example? she is standing by her daughter isnt she?
