Today I had to run some errands and when I was done I was on my way out the malls parking when I saw bundled up woman with a large sign that had stranded written on it with some other writing which I could not read. I could'nt stop either because of where she was sitting. She had no car, just a duffle bag and a small backpack.
Would I of helped her? I was tempted to but did'nt. At this day and age it's not difficult to find alternative ways for help....However on my way home I kept on debating on turning around to help her.
So would you have stopped and see what was wrong with a stranded person?

I often stop and talk to people who seems distraught or just generally out of "guidance". What I have learnt is to be weary of those who carry a sign with them, they are the ones that most often has come through as less honest about there situation.
I say weary, because, I still talk to them.
Of course, I live in Hippie land, and here they people looking for a supporting hand now and then, generally are in true need and are not dangerous to approach.

I am really leery about picking up strangers....but I think in that case I may have stopped because I have been stranded with my car broken down and some kind strangers helped me...BUT it's a tough call...more often than not I will drive by hitchhikers because it's too dangerous to pick them up these days!!!!!

Indyfella: Last time I picked up someone he said he was suicidal....and he went on to tell me he had a gun.I kept thinking......."suicidal works....keep that thought, please....don't confuse it with homocidal." I proceeded to get him out of the car at the next gas station.
I do always.. since a stranger one time stopped for me when i went through a car windscreen at 120 km an hour into a tree......
Thankfully he was an off duty fireman from Dundalk and he stopped the bleeding /placed his own coat over my blood soaked body (it was unuseable for him after that) and kept me alive until the ambulance/paramedics came.
lots and lots of sticky plasters later and 2 years until i could walk properly etc etc ..i hardly reflect on the past as its a negative part of my past and to hurtfull to remember ..but for this thread and for a charitable stranger i thought i owed it to him and the likes of him to let him know ill never forget him ....
There is a Time and a Place to provide Help for someone. Would have to decide that case by case how far I'd go in providing Assistance, there is no Blanket Answer¨. There are one set of people that can always count on my Assistance though, and that is a P.H.D.

There are way too many variables to answer with a simple yes or no

Yes...I would say so....it's those kind of selfless people that make this world a worthwhile place...now saying I wouldn't pick up hikers...if someone has a car broken down...or there were an accident....you bet I would stop and help.....
