I´ve always loved flea markets, garage sales, auctions... I love seeing the beauty behind the paint and horrible fabric... stripping it all away and redoing it.
I bought my daughter´s high chair at a garage sale... it was the ugliest thing you´ve ever seen...someone had painted it black and it was chipped and scarred but underneath the mess was solid carved wood. I stripped it all and sanded it ... used a little wood putty and stained it with a Cherrywood stain... it turned out beautiful.
Nearly all the furniture in my home in San Francisco was second hand... I bought couches that new had cost between 3000 and 4000, I picked them up for less then 200 each, recovered them and had a set of beautiful couches for about 700. I used to get compliments on the decor in my home... I called the style "Early American Garage Sale"
