The road that worries me most will always and only be the one I'm afraid to take because my guard is up so far that I can't see the path.
All roads can be navigated if care is taken to enter the curves gently, gear down on the steep grades and manuever around the potholes. Even if the bridge is out, with a little determination and extra effort (and maybe a slight detour) you can still get where you're going, provided you don't lose sight of the goal...

To love, and be loved in return, you must have trust. Without it you don't have a relationship. It hurts when you love someone so totally, and give them your trust, and both are broken...but hurting lets you know you're alive. To deaden that feeling at all is to live life less fully, and experience everything as if through layers of clothes.
An example: if you're wearing a down-filled coat and I punch you in the arm, you might feel the impact a little bit, but the painful blow is deadened. If you're wearing a t-shirt and I punch with the same force, you'll feel it more because there's nothing to soften the blow...but you'll know how hard I hit you.
Now...if I kiss you passionately on the lips, but you have those wax ones on, you won't feel that kiss very much...just the impact of my lips on yours. However, if I kiss you passionately on the lips and it is your lips against mine, then you feel it fully, every nuance.
Loving without trusting completely is like wearing that down jacket or the wax lips.
We cannot know joy without sorrow, or appreciate love at its fullest without ever having experienced pain.

Yes...and yet, not living fully still isn't the answer, at least not to me. But, everybody's different, and we all handle things differently.
Unfortunately, this is the problem with that man that I love so much...fear of being hurt again, therefore not trusting enough to let me in. I hope that I can show him otherwise...but I can't if he'll always be waiting for the shoe to fall.

It has took me way to many lessons to finally get to the point of being scared of men and I would keep my guard up and let it down tiny bits only as they earn my trust. But it will be a slow process , he will need to be patient with me.
