Does anyone else practice this when decorating their home? Do you take it into consideration when buying a home? There are so many books on the subject (many of which are also on my bookshelves laugh ), and so many people I know can talk about it...men, too, btw, so this isn't just a thread for women...that it made me curious to see how many here follow this practice to any extent.

I've found it very interesting. I've seen homes decorated using it on HGTV. But I've never studied how to use it in my own place.

I've done the best I can to Feng Shui my dorm room ,but it's not like I can a lot considering - from what I understand - that Feng Shui matters depending on the building, not just the specific room.

I've studied it, and I used quite a bit of it when decorating my house during the remodel. It's interesting, and I felt I had to do something positive here to lift the energy after so much illness and grieving had happened here. I've injected color, energy, and life into this house, and it feels really good here.

I've also smudged and cleansed negativity out, though I'm feeling a need to do it again.

Now I just need to work on the areas that still have clutter. Maybe that would help get some things unstuck.

Yes, but it does help if you work on the space you inhabit. You can't do anything about the building, but if your own space feels good when you walk into it, then you've done well.

This house isn't a good fit for me by feng shui principles since it's East and I'm West, but I have done everything I can to work with it. So far, it feels right. I just have the rooms in the basement and the garage to work on now.

I love HGTV...and they had a short-lived program called "Fun Shui" that I wish they'd kept. It was looking pretty good.

There are lots of books on it available, some make it easier than others. There are also different schools of it, so if you wanted to learn, I'd go to a book store and peruse many before buying a book on it. Go with what feels right and good to you. I don't follow it exactly...but I do what feels right in each room.

It's a Chinese art of decorating in a manner that improves the flow of chi in one's home to improve the general energy of one's life. Basically, it's based on the principle that everything has energy, and the energy of each thing affects the others, and you, so you can bring the things you want in your life into it by placing your furniture and accessories in the most propitious places. Placement of mirrors, plants, fountains, etc., are very important.

Oh, that's what's it called? I do put a heavy emphasis of arranging my bed in a certain area of the room so I can sleep better and having mirrors in certain areas.
I'm not really a heavy subscriber about arranging my entire home so I can improve my energy in order to have a better chance of bringing the things I want. I guess the best way to do that is to eliminate all the negative frequencies in my home...tv, radio, cordless phone, and my computeruh oh....as well as negative thoughts...jmo Energy transcends matter...

SF...you're instinctively using Feng Shui...but then, you're sensitive to, and aware of, energy. You can do things like cover your TV when not in use, and make sure that none of the big electronics (TV, computer) are facing your bed when you sleep. Close toilet lids to keep the good chi from draining out of your home...it's supposed literally keep your money from going down the drain. If your toilet is on the other side of your bed, tape a mirror to the wall, mirrored side facing the wall, to keep it from draining your energy. Those are just some little fixes that people can do.

Yes, energy transcends matter...and all things are composed of matter, which is composed of atoms, and atoms contain energy/chi.

thumbs up

I agree. My computer and tv are not in my bedroom. And a computer and a tv should not be in the same room. I angle my computer and tv in certain ways so it does not disrupt or re shift the wonderful and pure energy flow I need from the universe....And I always close the bathroom doors and toilet seats before I go to bed. And I do make sure that plenty of light comes into my home and I like to use mirrors to enhance the lighting and energy effect....

Seriously, I'm still in the process of getting myself situated in my new home. Perhaps I should go buy/loan a book on Feng Shui. Lord knows I could use some positive energy! I've seen Vern Yip use it many, many times & it always looks so nice & calming.

I do believe in this practice, and practice it myself. The results can be quite astounding.

It makes the difference also to being comfortable in your home.

A friend of mine began to study and use it in her home ..... she was overweight and had a cluttered apartment (a hoarder) and was often depressed ... as she rid herself of the extraneous things and smoothed out her living space .... she began to lose weight, regain energy, and a lot of irritating trivia fell away from her life-style.

Down to the most mundane and simple things, like dead leaves on plants, withered pot-plants indoors, stagnant water, dust, hoarded collections stashed on top of/inside cupboards - they all create disorder in ones life....... And is at least a beginning in establishing free-flowing energy.

Well, SF, now you know the name for decorating and placing objects according to energy. It's an ancient Chinese practice...over 5000 years, and they take it very seriously. Numerology is part of it, too.

Awesome. I haven't used mirrors, but color, art, and object placement. Although some of the pictures act as light reflectors because of the glass.

Ooops...wait...a small mirror by my door at the bottom of the steps to keep the energy from rushing out. I've got one more to hang for that purpose at the bottom of the other stairs.

I also use windchimes and little round crystals. (Yes, windchimes hang inside my house!)

I had heard that the fireplace shouldn't be visible as you enter the home. In my home, I have a corridor from the front door to the living room, so the fireplace isn't visible from there. But it IS visible from the sliding glass doors in the back. Is that OK? Can anybody tell me?
