Here is a philosophical question for everyone.

I was reading through the profiles and under the section of "Want Kids" some people noted "Definitely". Then I was watching an episode of Designing Women and they were talking about getting married. Charlene asks Suzanne "You want to have kids some day don't you?" to which Suzanna replied "I don't know".

Now Im NOT talking about the children you already have nor unplanned pregnancies.

I am talking about actually planning a pregnancy.

Why do people choose to have children?

What are your theories?

God probably never feels old because He never dies.
God is very happy every time one of his creation is
born. I am happy when I have a new addition to the
family.

But you didn't answer my question.

Why did you choose to have that child?

Remember, Im not talking about keeping an unplanned pregnancy. Im talking about getting pregnant on purpose.

I don't have time to plan something. If you are married and you get pregnant, that's all part of God's blessing. People plan things when they have other things they consider they must do first. They may plan to have a child because they have difficulty conceiving, so it's done according to the ovulatory clock. What I am picking up from the question though, is as if someone didn't consult their partner and just went ahead and pull a few strings., which sounds devious to me.

i think alot of people have kids, because everyone else does and dont think about it enough beforehand, think also many peoples reasons for having children are often selfish ones.think also people just assume they can have kids,at any time in their life and dont realise that for both men and women, fertility drops, after as young as 35

Medical advice from research also suggests the higher the age of conception also increases the chances of imperfections in the child.

All four of my children where planned.

As to why we decided to have them,,,

Is not an easy question to answer, I had never been particularly maternal, when I married we agreed that neither of us wanted children.

Five years into marriage I just started thinking about having a child and it became all consuming. I discussed this with my husband and we decided that we did want to start a family.

Having children is the nearest we get to earthly immortality.

Creating a new person that is genetically half you and half the person you've fallen in love with.

Raising a person that will be deeply influenced by you. That will copy and immitate you. That will adopt a lot of your habits, views and personality traits.

Interesting.

Why was it "All consuming"? What exactly were the thoughts? Was it just a phsyical urge like a craving for a food or sweet but no explaination as to where it came from? You know what I mean?
