I love Christmas... the lights in the streets, the shops open till late, shopping for presents, dinners with friends that you don't normally meet much, the opening of presents, the putting up of the tree... anything related to it... writing greeting cards... cant think of more right now but I just love Christmas.

Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!

Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?"
"It came with out ribbons! It came without tags!"
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store."
"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"
And what happened then? Well...in Whoville they say,
That the Grinch's small heart Grew three sizes that day!
And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight,
He whizzed with his load through the bright morning light,
And he brought back the toys! And the food for the feast!
And he, HE HIMSELF! The Grinch carved the roast beast!

I find that the Tinsel/Lights/Traditional Christmassy things are just SO perfect for this country .... without them, with the gloomy cold short days and long frozen nights ... life would become boring! Now we can wander around the village and every house has all these decoration in their windows, on their front doors, in their gardens ..... fairy lights twinkling everywhere ...... even on the pavement trees. So when the snow comes down its like a fairyland!
And also, here in my village, there is a tradition of Advent (I think thats its name?) ... where every night of December up to the 26th the public are welcomed to a different house that is beautifully decorated outside and the householders serve apéros between certain hours of the evening - all this is advertised in the town magazine. And each week-end Schammichlaus and Schmützli (Santa Claus and his side-kick dressed in brown who doesn`t talk just hangs out behind S/Claus), well they appear quite regularly on weekends in different venues to dish out bags of peanuts and fruit to the kids.

Just walked through the Main Railroad-Station here in Zurich a while ago,and I learned how to Slalom all over again.
Christmas-Market,and more People than the Place can hold.

I sympathise completely i always felt the grinch and scrooge were misunderstood and misrepresented
so tell you what lets change the grinch poem ..where are all those poets when you need them 
how about a few lines at the end about how xmas stopped coming

its true xmas does seem associated with snow and cold and mountains ..... and it does look amazing i was in slovakia last year before xmas and it looked magical...of course the funny thing is that xmas started in a hot country didnt it with the brith of christ
oh well i guess that is what rewriting and reintrepeting is all about i wonder if there are any customs vis xmas that are specific to hot countries i mean how do they celebrate it in austrialia
