Kyrhah: I for myself am trying to spell properly and find it ever so annoying to see those utterly wrong spelled words some of you guys let fly here....(Wally, that does not include you, buddy - you are the coolest dude around here because you are doing great dealing with your handicap !!! I truly admire you )

But I just cannot fathom that there should be more than 90% on CS who are dislexic ...

Remember also, English is my second language after German... yeah, I know, some words are spelled British and others are spelled American, but the whole point is: I am trying hard and just find I owe it to others to be using their language in a proper way

So, now y'all (!!! ) can rip into me !!!

I am waiting, come on, your best shot first

Rip into you? What on earth for?! dunno

You have made it clear that English is your second language but also that you TRY!! That's what its all about....

There is a misconception that all it takes on the Forums is to put you point across, regardless of how it appears and that the writer is the most important in this equation.... not so! Whenever we write anything, we need to bear in mind the recipient (whether solo or en masse) and accommodate their perception of what we are saying.

There's no point in writing anything otherwise. It will result in misconception and misinterpretation and, in turn, defeats the whole object of what you are trying to say. Therefore, it does neither the writer nor the recipient any favours whatsoever...??!

I appreciate word-blindness, dyslexia, perhaps even lack of education, and the like.... noone is to blame. If its laziness though... no excuse, more effort is needed.

Don't worry, love... whether English, Americanese or any other language, I am sure we can accommodate.

Good thread!! thumbs up

hawk69: Maybe it's not just spelling being the issue, but possibly typing skills or in actuality lack thereof. I type with two fingers in the dark and sometimes hit the wrong keys without knowing it in an effort to post "quikly" (see heres one right here)the letter "c" must have been hit a millisecond after the "k" so it did not register. People here are not morons (well some are) and others dont care about spelling as long as it gets their point "acress" (see theres another one). I can spell across, see. Point made.

Funny you should mention the keyboard thing: I thought I'd be soooo efficient when I used the vacuum to get the cathair off my laptop....well, since then, the e and the 6 did not work anymore and I had to get me a new laptop (it was a very old one, from 98)

Kyrhah: See, this shows how ignorant people get when they know they are on the loosing side: they start calling their oponents names and sink to a level below humanity.

So sorry you feel so hurt you poor thing

LACali: There is no such thing as "dislexic" misspelled by the way. "Dyslexia" is a blanket term for a variety of reading disorders. People with poor spelling do not have learning disabilities but rather poor visual memory. My father is both a mechanical engineer and a trial attorney and he cannot spell. He consistently scored throughout his school career in the top 1% on all standardized tests. Spelling has nothing to do with intelligence or education.

No, sorry, Sweetheart.... my German is extremely limited. I have picked up snippets of several languages. Your English is MUCH better than my German so you have nothing to worry about. And, besides, there was a typo in my post and I am English...!! doh An oversight on my part.

I am not a teacher.... heaven forbid!!! I simply wouldn't have the patience, though its an admirable profession. Where would any of us be without teachers, eh?

Its true about accommodating the recipient though.... do you think any of the famous/best selling authors simply put pen to paper about what they want to say? No.... its about the recipient. And whereby, here on the Forums, I don't believe any of us are emminent authors (I may be wrong?), we still need to consider what is open to interpretation? I am sure a lot less arguments would occur....??!!

Well said LACali......
A dyslexic is a person who has problems with the written language and it can manifest in various forms. I work in Education. My grammar and spelling can be horrific. I can relate to anyone with these problems as I get D,B, P and H mixed up which is meant to be quite common but unheard of when I was at school. People need to be encouraged and not jeered at...some are clever and pick up several languages. I to find English and American very different. I asked for a rubber in a store and got weird looks when I realised Americans say eraser. I have asked for the loo and been told there is no Loo here. As for slider and dog...when it comes to food I am totally lost.
