I agree with you. I watched the program last night and felt so sorry for those children. The girls don't care if they win, it's the parents that want it. Can you imagine the pressure Jon Benet went through.
morgan5: Have watched programmes about this on TV and been appalled.
I think these kids are having there childhood taken away from them.
just one example i have a nice that has been in them for a few years now she loves it we live in the country so most of the time she is on a horse are feeding the chickens she likes to hunt shes not but 12 she has alot of 1st place but she is a tom boy but all kids don't grow up like that

we don't have pagents like it in the UK, i was amazed at the lengths some parents go to.
I agree...I think that it's the parents living vicariously through the children, and I don't like the message those kids are getting. Yes, I think that they're being denied their childhood. I was a tomboy growing up, and am glad my mother never had this dream, so I wasn't put through this. So much focus on outer looks in our society today...more emphasis needs to be put on inner beauty. JMO.
I don't even think the parents are focusing on the physical beauty. They seem to think that 20 years from now their daughter will be Miss America if they get started now on winning beauty pageants. The beautiful creamy skin little girls have is being destroyed by makeup with chemicals and gasoline. They are learning to compete so early in life.

Oh goodness.. I can't even watch that stuff. It really upsets me to see what these parents are doing to their children
These pageants for little girls and boys should be outlawed. That'd be the only way to stop those nutjobs from shlepping their kids from A to B to C to D; putting make-up on them, nailpolish, hairspray, fake eyelashes, studying idiotic dance routines and practicing how to look seductive on camera...
snugglysenior: Six year old little girls in beauty pageants playing the part of a beauty queen.
They wear heavy makeup, perform poses meant for adults and wear costumes way beyond their years.
Are these little girls fulfilling the dreams of their mother who wanted the crown for themselves?
Do you think these little girls prefer the curtain call to being called for by their friends to go out and play, to get dirty, to ride their bikes.
Are these pageants denying little girls to live the life of "a little girl"?
I even saw last night that one girl put false teeth in to forced her mouth to give a big smile.

yes ithink theyre disturbing, but they are also fun ,in moderation.as long as it doesnt become an obsession.one or two baby shows ,yes, but not one after the other, the parents should know better
This is part of a larger phenomenon, driven by a culture that is obsessed with youth, beauty, success and competition...unhealthy in my humble opinion...
