I think the greatest gift you can give to anyone is to check the "YES" box on your drivers license to be a donor for an organ transplant.

Someone told me he informed his family that in the event of his death he was agreeable to give all of his organs except his heart because his heart is where the love for his children is and he wanted to be buried with it. Eventually he thought differently and agreed to donate all of his organs if someone needed them. People have their personal reasons why they don't want to be an organ donor.

Everyone has a different opinion about organ donation. The pros and cons, the fear of it not taking, the cost, the fear of infection and knowing that you have to be on rejection drugs the rest of your life often turns people off.

Are you an organ transplant donor?

Why do you think people say they don't want to be a donor?

Could it be because they don't understand that there's more to being a donor then giving away an organ?

A discussion here might help someone who is afraid to be an organ donor.

Here are some facts:

I'm an organ donor, and yes I have ticked the boxes and informed my family - and as I will be cremated, I don't require organs where I will be going..

The disappointing thing I found though, when having a hysterectomy, is that I was not given the choice of donating my eggs... shame, because you hear about women requiring eggs... just a pity my obs Dr, never gave me that information... as I would of gladly donated those as well...coffee

Yes I have ticked the box and told my family.

That's if there are any useful bits of this body left whenever I drop off the perch sigh

I must look into donating my brain - had a talk from a nurse re dementia and she said that there are not enough brains donated which of course give researchers and insight into alzeihmers, dementia and other things like that.

hug thumbs up teddybear

That's a good point thumbs up

I met someone a little while back who has donated their body to a local university for research purposes.

A late friend of mine's husband was a diagnosed alcoholic for over 20 yrs. He had 3 files about a foot high at the local hospital of all kinds of complaints, he even beat throat cancer. I called him Houdini-Lazarus.

She always said she would donate his body to medical research as it was bewildering how anybody's body could be abused so much and still recover!! sigh

It's unbelievable innit doh

I knew a guy who had been drinking till he passed out from the age of around 16, as well as smoking truckloads of pot, he'd be in his mid-forties now and from what I've heard, nothing's changed confused

He was diagnosed with epilepsy around ten years ago .. I believe he suffers from alcoholic seizures, he's such a heavy drinker that his brain can't handle it.

Unfortunately the Australian Medical Association do not understand our nature is moving energy.
A person or other sentient being is not dead until such time the subtle winds have departed, which can occur in an instant or any time up to 27 days.
A person could have stopped breathing, and the heart stopped beating and still the dying person can be experiencing subtle levels of consciousness.

I understand the Catholics cut out body parts of dying Pope, that sort of disturbance should not be occurring, its an interference with a dying persons passage into the Bardo.

AMA Code of Ethics states the following: -
1.5 Transplantation
e. Explain brain death to potential donor families. Similarly explain that continued artificial organ support is necessary to enable subsequent organ transplantation.

If you’ve got any sense at all, you would not let a Christian anywhere near a dying person, at very least until its been confirmed the subtle winds have departed you should inform any inherently non existent Christian or Muslim organization, any public office, police, court or any other Christian or Muslim influenced inherently non existent government or any other group of grossly misinformed people.

That’s my opinion
