christianity is based on the fact that GOD is LOVE.
london is also the most visited city by the travelling maltese, and indeed one of the most popular touristic destination in the world !
while i always thought of myself as a very open minded person, and can accept others point of views, i feel hurt the world has come to this. how would you feel when confronted by such advert on the famous london buses ?

try to stay within the subject please
you feel hurt that the world has come to what exactly, Virgosign? The claim the God is Love, that there is a lot of Maltese in London or that the famous London busses carry adverts? Please clarify
I checked the link, but then I looked up the organisation behind the campaign.
Here is why:
Atheist Bus Campaign: The BHA is onboard with Ariane Sherine
The Atheist Bus Campaign is being launched today with a piece in the Guardian's Comment is Free: "All aboard the atheist bus" . The campaign is a response to a widely run religious advert on London buses which linked to a website threatening hellfire for unbelievers.
The reassuring "humanised" message will read: There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.
So, it is a respons to an already running campaign.
I think it´s brilliant! You have to look at the fact that this is in response to religion plastering their message on the sides of a bus... while the religious sign led one to a website that damned all non believers... the atheist message is much more positive and doesn´t ridicule religion... just gives a different view point.
The end of the video says that Christians find the atheist view point to be dangerous... I personally believe the non tolerance of organized religion to be much more dangerous.

They have a reason to react the way they do, the believers of heaven and hell: If they don't, they will go to hell - While atheists need not to worry, life is here and now and no more, better go on living it.
i knew touching 'religion' as a subject could be a hot issue. this was meant to start a conversion between people with different beliefs. It was not meant to be judgemental.
my point of view is the fact that all (well most) religions point to a god - and that God is good. Atheism points to no god.
The ad says there probably is no God. It also implies that there probably is. And do you really think it does make people feel better ?
Heres the last bit of the article..As Richard Dawkins says: "This campaign to put alternative slogans on London buses will make people think – and thinking is anathema to religion."

I agree. Religious intolarance is very dangerous. We have already seen a case of this on the news this week - an aide worker from one religion was cold bloodedly murdered by members of another religion purely for speaking about her beliefs. Although we have reached the 21st century, it seems we are still being ruled by mumbo jumbo and witchcraft. Whatever happened to all those years of enlightenment?
I also think the claim that God is love doesn't really harmonize with the religious fanatics' claims that all non believers are going to hell. What sort of love would that be? 'Do as I say or you'll burn you in eternal damnation and, by the way, I love you' The notion is totally ludicrous in my opinion.

I find many atheists to be as fanatical as religious zealots.
I respect Agnostics who say they just don't know.
Forcing your ideas on others isn't too nice - I'd never try and convert muslims to Christianity if I knew they'd face death as apostates.
I think the advert could have been slightly nicer:
'There might not be a God, many of us don't believe in God.....and you might not burn in Hell....... have fun, but please be good! '
That advert would been less controversial - what do you think?

I think both sides created some annoyance, but the ad is using the half empty glass tactic, not the half full glass.
As for sending a message, I think if the state is detached from the church or similar in that country it has left the will free for people to choose. Then sending a message on different viewpoints is good, it is more about where to send this message.
Just because I live in Spain I do not convert to their most common religious belief here, which would be acting very disrespectful to it, since I do not have my faith along their lines.
I would not run a campaign on buses either, I considering that a bit bad taste, any country, any religion.
And I don't think threatening people to go to hell in public is not too clever, even if it is a Christian country.
rusty_knight: That advert would been less controversial - what do you think?
It would, and more British "good taste" style. But then… they could have split the advertisement bill with the church, and I guess that was not an option…

Semantics, semantics... wehat do we mean by Hell?
My honest opinion is that Hell is being ignored by the one you love - and to ignore something you created in your own image must be hell for both parties!
In other words I'd be bold enough to speculate that real Hell for a 'real' Christian would be to know that his/her creator had turned his back on him/her forever!

we agree..
phoenix: The campagian slogan says.. There probably is no god....So stop worring and enjoy life...
And I say to atheists ""There probably is a god...So lets split the difference and i'll see you at the pearly gates...
Wots the craic with your mucker..mr 'nofoollove' the guy with the busted leg. Is he on the mend?

or not.... maybe hell is no other than a way for the established church to control its flock of scared sheep?
i agree that there shouldn't have been any hell fire adverts in the first place, as much as this atheist advert in reply, but what would you tell your children : there is probably no God so go and enjoy life ?
IMO all parents point out to their offsprings what is right and what is wrong, and 'don't do unto others as you would want others not to do unto you' - and that is basically the biggest chunk of most religions.
additionally, in times of sickness and pain, where would one's thoughts revert to . . .

It took a while to see this was for me... To me he is Ron
Yeah, he's walking now. Still got steel in there and support to keep it in place, no dancing nowhere yet. He hooked up with a girl at the hospital btw, now he got his own nurse.
