August Promise

The August wind blows past
Hot and dusty against the skin

It tells of times to come, time to be, time to see

The smell of wheat and corn

The smell of harvest to be

The temperature warming

Sun blazing down

Soothing and healing on this ground

Heartaches of before

It too takes its own pound

Sweat trickling down

Across the brow, down the back

Lull of the motor under the hand

Slow and easy be the way

Another bundle to the pack

One become many

In a labor of love

To this land and to this farm

To replenish what is gone

To give back to above

Before long the fields will be empty

To lay in wait again

A circle of love to the land

To bring forth

And expand

Waiting gently at the rock

She listens and waits

The warmth of the sun below her palm

Taking in the not known

The life yet to be fate

Watch and listen

This is to be

The circle of life for all to see

Each season anew

A love that is free

A time of a child

A woman in waiting

Rock of the steady and the true

To peer out on the land

The stories in the making
