"Tiny In My Eyes"

"Tiny in my eyes"

Walking along wetted sand watching graceful gulls glide,
I have a sense that I too am watched with each and every stride.
It's a strange awareness to feel observed without seeing from who,
as in all directions I cast my glance but no one comes into view.

I continue walking trying to ignore as a tide pool now appears,
trying to ignore this creepy feeling that's working up my fears.
I came here to escape the mad hustle, bustle and rush of man,
not to be someone's experiment being watched upon the sand.

Another attempt to see who it is that's been staring down at me,
I throw my head and wheel around with mounting anxiety.
The sights I came to see and capture have all but lost their flare,
due to this feeling of being watched by someone who isn't there!

My stomach begins to ache within as tension continues to grow,
This creep that's been staring at me I'd certainly like to know.
Sounds are clear, sights are grand but this one thing I've still craved,
Who or what is watching me? - OH! it's the ocean that just waved!

How silly of me to get so distraught over something completely dumb,
to think that I'd been fretting over the presence of absolutely no-one.
I knew that in comparison to a giant ocean so grand in all it's size,
I'd be quite small standing next to it, but never so tiny in my eyes!

About this poem:
This was a poem that I wrote with a self-inflicted time restriction... I had 10 minutes before a particular meeting started and I wanted to write a poem within that 10 minute time frame... this is what evolved.

Hi John

This ten minute write just has to be accorded the highest of compliments - imagine what you might have produced had you the time to edit and re-edit before posting (as most of us do).

Take a bow Mr Swade...

Great insight swade.....I think these type of poems tell alot about us....and did several when I studied....but what remains a surprise, are poems I write straight to the post form, with no real thought....get the most comments and views.....maybe they come straight from our soul....Kathyteddybear yay

Hello there my friends Kathy and Bill! Thank you both for your time spent reading and providing the encouraging comments that you have! I'm taking a chance and entering one of my poems in a local poetry contest... it'll be my first ever, so I'm a bit nervous about the outcome. The poem I've submitted is the one that I had posted for awhile and then removed that I titled: "Twill Be Sweet To Ride The Rizzard Whipple" I actually did do some editing and re-writing of that piece to make it flow better than it did. Wish me luck!! Thanks guys!!

Ten minutes?!!! It'd take me ten days to write something this loooong and this good....neat perspective, how we humans may appear to the sun and the moon and the birds and the bees...and the ants, don't let me forget the ants!

adjhe, heidistuff, Earlgrey, Redex..... Thank you... each and everyone of you for your encouragement in comments and especially for the good wishes for the upcoming contest that I've entered! I'll certainly let the P.C. family know if I win 1st or 2nd place. 1st place gets $50 cash and the poem they've entered published in the local paper and on-line. 2nd place gets $25 and the same publishing benefits. It'll be my first ever 'published' piece if I win! Thanks again for all your good wishes!!

Hey Swade! I remember your Whipple poem very well. I can't see it not being a winner. You are a winner my friend. This' Tiny in my eyes' is quite a creative 10 minute burst.. professor peace

Hey Jim!
Good to see you my friend! How's things been with you? I'm not able to spend quite as much time on poet's corner as I'd like due to this being the busy season for me and my line of work. I do check in every now and again... thanks for stopping in on me and for your encouragement on the poetry contest coming up at the end of the month!
I wrote another poem sometime ago that I'd love to share with poet's corner, but it's quite lengthy! I discovered that it would take 3 submissions to get the whole poem posted. It's another poem similar to the Rizzard Whipple poem, in that it's designed to be developed into a poetic book for youth. It's titled "A Curious Lizard and Denise". I enjoyed writing it very much! I hope to get it and the Rizzard Whipple poems into publishable format this year.
What do you here from kickit these days? Did he and his Canadian friend ever get around to getting married as they once announced?
Take care Jim!! (And everyone else that happens to read this response!) :-) Swade

BEAUTIFUL DAY IN S.W. ORGEON, U.S.A.!!!!!!!!

Hi Swade,

Glad I caught up with this one. A ten minute poem...I take my hat off to you. There's a great deal of profundity here from a person who obviously thinks poetically. Keep up the thoughts. Cheers mate.cheers

Swade777 the last two lines definitely define the minuteness and insignificance of us (human beings) into this awesome creation...Thanks for the trip, the angtsy feeling and restlessness, built to fear and escalated to paranoia only to realize that it is just you alone, in this awesome grandess of your suroundings...Not that your presence was never considered, after all without you and your brilliant mind, none of this would make sense. It is in the very appreciation of our existence along with these wonderful creations (specially those that we had nothing to do with it) that would make it all real and beautiful, useful and meaningful...Thanks for sharing...It truly is a masterpiece...WW

Hey there Honorable Mr. McDuff, and WW.... Thanks to both of you for your kind and insightful comments. I have to confess something here.... When I wrote the poem, as I mentioned, I had a 10 minute slot of time to write 'something'.... my mind went to thinking.. "OK, 'what' do I write about?"
For some unexplainable reason.... an 'ocean wave' came to mind as being the 'subject matter' for my self imposed assignment. So... the poem was NOT written as an 'experience' that was actually had, but rather a means of getting to the use of the 'ocean wave' thought that inspired the write.
Fun thing to do.... I think everyone should try it! Come up with a 'concept' or a 'topic' and then limit yourself to a specific time frame to accomplish a written representation of your thoughts.
Thanks again to EVERYONE for your personable contributions in the way of encouraging comments. I applaud you all!! applause

Of course I understand Swade777 after all it is written in your note. The main point there is this vicarious experience we all go through and it is as potent as an ACTUAL EXPREIENCE. Infact for me as a contributor, my most potent works are those that I have imagined more than those that I have actually experienced per se. Now, take them two together and it creates the world of reality based on thinking and thinking based on reality..So it doesn't really matter that you were sitting there for split second or how long it was, the fact is that you created these scenario like in a movie and you took me there with you. In the settings, in your feelings and it made me feel so much of part of it and I learned from it..and that is all that matters isn't it? Thank you so much. It is a poet and a writer and a gentleman like you that makes our corner like and INSTITUTION OF GREAT KNOWLEDGE WHERE WE CAN ALL BE STUDENTS AND LEARN MAGNIFICENT IDEAS AND PUT THEM TO USE IN LIFE. YOU ARE THE TEACHER AND I AM THE STUDENT AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO PAY A TUITION FEE. HOW ABOUT THAT.. I do have a lot of pieces that come to me in fraction of a second and write it as is..but that is another story..thanks anyways..forever I am grateful to witness such a master piece from such a master mind...I had a teacher in master's degree in England a long time ago. His name was professor Trafalgar and although he taught the basic principles of Business Administration, he was more of a JOHN KEATS AND LORD GEORGE GORDON BYRON GUY AND POETICALLY I SUGGESTED HE SHOULD BE IN THE MASTER'S LEVEL OF LITERATURE AND HE DID. I learned later...thanks anyways..WW
