Wish It Were So!

I see you sleeping,
Ever so soundly, so
Deep are you, that neither
An earthquake or a battle
In the streets could waken you.
I am pleased at this.
Yet grieved to where a
Tear forms and slowly
Caresses my cheeks.

There was a time, not
Long past, or was it a lifetime?
That if I coughed, you would awake;
With that wonderful, caring
Smile, asking me if
I were OK.

Or I, feeling you tossing,
From the disturbence of
A bad dream, would gently
Wake you to end your nightmare.
We would smile at each,
Embrace, kiss, and more
Times than not, become
Entwined, lost, not caring
Of anything other than
Each other.

Things have changed, time
Has taken it's toll.
Your breasts are not firm.
You have a slight belly.
I should not find fault,
A fat mid aged man now
Shares your bed.
Thick brown hair, once,
Replaced by thin gray.

I look at you, a second
Tear forms, slowly following
The path of the first.
Dear GOD, my mind screams,
I never stopped loving you!
When did I start
Not desiring you?

I walk to the bathroom,
Throw water over my face,
To hide from you my pain.

I feel a touch on my shoulder,
So light, so gentle, as
If it were hardly there.
The spot that you touch
Comes alive, tingling,
Vibrating, as if the
Nerves had a mind of their own.

You look at me and with
That wonderful, caring,
Smile, and asks if I'm OK.
As if you put a glass
To my head, as you would
To a wall, you heard my
Thoughts, and felt my pain.

With your smile never fading,
You take my hand, and playfully
State " Come on, big boy,
Let's go to bed."

Was the light?
Was it my eyes?
You looked looked as if
You were twenty four,
I felt I was twenty four!

Forty something years later.
It was beautiful then,
When passion rushed us
Into oblivion, overwhelming
With loving, violent desires.
It is much better now,
As passion slowly, gently,
Moves our beings,
Overwhelming us, into
Oblinion.

About this poem:
I feel as if I didn't write this, it's so removed from reality.
It could be my ultimate fantasy. Having grown old with a true love.

Hi, cambuff,
Passion is an amazing and mysterious thing and people in love see with lovers' eyes.
