Footnote THE FARMER'S FOLLY One of the most imposing reminders of the Percy family in Alnwick is an eighty three feet high Percy Tenantry Column which is known locally as the Farmers Folly. The column designed by the Newcastle architect David Stephenson was constructed in 1816 and lies close to the southern end of the street called Bondgate-Without. It is one of the first sights to greet the visitor to Alnwick from the south. Legend is that the second Duke of Northumberland (a Percy) lowered the rents of his agricultural tenants by twenty-five per cent to help them through the period of agricultural depression which followed the Napoleonic Wars. It is said that the tenants were so grateful to the Duke that they erected the great column in his honour - topped of course by a stone statue of the famous Percy Lion which had been the emblem of the Percy family for centuries. But the story is that the Duke, far from showing gratitude for the monument to his honour was more interested in the fact that his tenants had been able to raise the money for the monument. His reaction was to raise their rents once again - the story is however only a legend.
Footnote Jamie Allan - famed piper, gypsy, serial army enlister and deserter, horse thief, and jailbird. (Jamie Allan was a Northumbrian piper, a border gypsy, born 1734 in Rothbury and who died in the Durham Lock Up in 1810 where he was serving a life sentence for stealing a horse from Gateshead seven years earlier. During his lifetime he became a legendary rogue, but one of immense talent as a musician, often patronised by the aristocracy who, however, became wary of him when his wayward behavior began to match their own. As he grew older his attraction to them diminished and his struggle to survive intensified along with the other gypsies who were regarded as rogues and scum and treated as such. He retained a few loyal supporters, mostly on the North side of the Tyne, who tried to get him released, but they failed and he died confined miserable in Durham. For some he represents the spirit of the borders and he retains the affection and admiration of most musicians carrying on the tradition. This song is written as a celebration and salute to Jamie Allan, warts an’ all.)

Had a similar exp with a group of friends (5) we got it up and going and used a string that span 5 kilometres ...when it hit the mark it was still quite low ..after half An hour we decided to reel it in..it was total chaos and lots of bravado each one lasting not more than ten mins ..after 5 hours and with another 5 friends rope in to help ..we finally cut the string and ran home with our tails between our legs ..by the way ours was the only kite that flew the highest and longest ..our competitor got their string snapped halfway and it crash on top of the flat ..we never played kite again

I can't be the only one who has been screwed (numerous times) at a job. Taunted, lied about, turned into the bad person when 100% right. I was pushed to the edge a couple of times (postal pushed). Point being, others can derail your plan of making it........... Tweaked 7/17/17

A nostalgic poem about childhood
Just thoughts and ramblings.
A fish hook may be tiny, but once it takes hold it can become a powerful tool to trap and hold......just like memories acting with heartstring........
Sitting here behind my window, watching the anger of the rain pelting down as if in pain. The wind doing its best to blow it over the hills to the forest in the west. My latter years spent pondering sitting here watching the world go by. Memo
Reminiscing about following Dad around and learning to ride.Mom, bless her heart, tried to put me in frilly dresses, but I was having none of it. My entire life has involved cowboys in one way or another, it's simply a life I can't deny.
From monuments high On pillars of stone She stands alone Her gaze Her features Her sensual body set in stone Frome granite stone Her gaze fixed She stands For all to see Model set in stone For she is the attraction The model for al
Just going through my day off as I am so glad not to be working any Saturdays since early July of last year. My time is worth more than the extra money.
Another translation from the poetess belonging to the same pleiad of Tbilisi poets of all nationalities writing in Russian.
Number one is symbolic of the sun, Spiritual Meaning of Number One One: One primarily deals with strong will, positivity, pure energy. The number One reflects new beginnings, and purity. The symbolic meaning of number One is further clarified when we understand One represents both kinds of action: physical and mental. This combined with Ones urgency for new beginnings, we begin to see Ones recurring in our lives indicates a time to exert our natural forces, take action, and start a new venture. One encourages us our action will be rewarded in kind.
Need I explain, this is not about sadness Happy New Year to all!
I have not written any poetry in the last 20 something years but...........I was on a recent trip in Tasmania where someone made the suggestion/demand that we read a poem of the selected works of Banjo Paterson each night. As I was a solo driver this was my first attempt and it was "Page 100" without seeing what it was I had to read. I had another 2 poems to read later, one I did manage to prepare for and one handed to me on the night of "The Reading." Very difficult to properly express a poem without some preparation. Having said tha,t and mentioning this to my house-sitter on my return, it has gotten me a wee bit interested as I have not seen or heard of this form before. So the second verse is mine. Hope it suffices.
This song is a quintessence of memories of childhood, spent in the Soviet Union, of the way it used to be over there in so distant past. Won’t deny: I have nostalgic memories, from time to time, which is forgivable I hope. School years, pioneer camps, joys and sorrows, dreams children dream all over the world – no difference - haven't you all dreamed about the same?! I’ve translated from Russian the lyrics by Yu. Etnin, music is written by Ye. Krylatov, the song PREKRASNOJE DALJOKO is performed in the movie “A Visitor from Future.” You may follow the translation while listening to the song. And thank you very much – all of you – for inspiring me. If asked what poetry is I would most certainly answer: inspiration! The process of writing is what matters – forms may be far from perfect, grammar – a real disaster, style, rhythm and rhyme just hopeless – but do they really matter?!

Just relax and listen to the angels!
Just thinking back to my childhood and some things that have gone away. I wonder sometimes if this smoking ban is worth it. Wouldn't people be happier if they didn't have to worry about everything they did could lead to cancer and death. I see the price they charge for cigarettes and I think it is legalized theft to charge 7 dollars for a box of cigarettes. I think there are 20 in a box, so that is 35 cents a cig. Bad or not, it is wrong to charge that much.
For you to read and enjoy the words of this poet. Such a fine tribute to a beloved wife, such a dedication!
In surveying the general political scene world wide, economy of truth appears to be ' stock on trade', ushered in by smooth rhetoric.
Not beautiful, it wasn't that. Alive, unbarren as a childheavy woman, She could unscar me if I was loose. I was the good but dangerous student. I wore a smashed look for the whole semester. Everything said hopeless, which glued her. The lea

Epilogue, but this time fiction as I'm still alive and kicking. For our international friends "swaggie"short for swagman, a person who walked the roads seeking work carrying his meagre belongings tied to a stick and wrapped in a piece of cloth which also doubled as a blanket. His "swag". Similar in many ways to a tramp.
