Good question, though I suspect that he was referring to the Macedonia from which Philip of Macedon came. Philip and his son, Alexander, rather took the view that Greece was Macedonian, rather than Macedonia being Greek. I have to agree with the Greeks that Cyprus is rightfully Greek, though history shows that any piece of ground belongs to he who is strong enough to take it and hold it . . . but only for as long as he is strong enough to hold it. Sadly for the Greeks, they are not in a position to mount a war to reclaim the whole of Cyprus.
Carl96190: I thought that Serbs were Russian Orthodox, rather than Greek Orthodox. Is that incorrect?
Well you know during the era of socialism a lot of Serbian history was well hidden and changed .Till a few years ago, most people didn`t know that there is a small percentage of catholic Serbs .There is a lot of history down here which isn`t welcome to be published for some reasons ... Constantine VII Porphyrogennetos made a lot of rewriting of historical facts
The Capital of Serbia from 490. to 1181 was Skadar ( Albania nowadays )
Berlin-Vienna School deliberately distort our history, made ??a forgery in which Serbs are not the indigenous inhabitant.Teaching that the Serbs migrated to the Balkans in the seventh century AD which was accepted ,has contributed that people nowadays don`t know their roots ...

There are a few strong beliefs whether the Macedonia you see today is a country or not. I am on the side and strongly speak out that it is, I would like to post the maps of Macedonia over time where it was once very much larger than today. And though in 1991 gained independence like others from Yugoslavia, Macedonia is of a earlier time and has roots that are deep into a timeline that goes way back.
As you see in this map, it shows a time where Serbia is there, so is Albania and Romania, Bulgaria is not (at least as we know it today) Maybe that is Greece over to the side,,lol,,,but there are so many of these changes that took place until now Macedonia is about the size of Vermont.
Well...it is what it is today,,I think that is should still get some of the waterfront but that's just what I think, Long Live Macedonia It has lived much longer than many a Country already! Nikogas ;-}

Rightfully Greek. Nope, so many other folk ruled it before them and until 1974 it was CYPRUS an Island shared by Turkish/Greek Cypriots....
The argument over the split remains. but hopefully that will be solved and the CYPRIOTS will have their island as it was.

In otherwords the will of the stronger prevails, and what about numerus UNSC resolutions ordering Turkish troops out of Cyprus, all in the waste basket by Turkey, like isn't the same what Saddam did by invading Kuwait.
Conrad73: not sure how factual it is,since the source is the Uncyclopedia!
yeah,,the text was pretty way out,,,but the map is from a earlier time and it is on other sites as well,,point mainly was that Macedonia used to reach the Sea.

Boban1: Macedonians are actually Serbians with a speech defects...
With due respect to you Boban, the language they speak is much more close,to Bulgarian one.-Though what they speak, can be a combination of 2 dialectes Serbian+Bulgarian.

It was a joke...probably understandable only to people from former Yugoslavia...

That is the lesson of history . . . and it is the order of nature. The strong shall prevail.
seen this in the morning and was going to check my books so macedonia did end up as part of the greek empire,, right,,?? and i am sure that some greeks lived there, but were they all greeks ??? was not macedonia invaded and taken from the greeks,
cyprus had to be greek, or was some one else there first, one thing i do know is when they greeks were around at there prime so to speak, there was no such thing as a turk in that area, the turks were invaders and took persia which is now turkey, and the turks moved into cyprus and it was the turkish goverment that annexed half of cyprus sorry going to check my books now
Nikogas: What?? do you think they should lose their language the little land they were allowed to keep and what?? wtf?? just give up their name that is older than most countries?? The people there went through hell (as did so many during the Balkan wars) and what they have they deserve and more!!. I hope one day they do get more. So I support Macedonia!!! I believe in Macedonia. At least Bulgaria allowed them an option to keep their land if they became citizens, but not Greece! They took their land and sent them away.
Yeah.. What? No I did not say that they should lose their language :) Only the name. There's a lot of proud history to that name, and I can understand why the Greeks wants it. And I think they should have it. That said, the Slavs deserve prosperity and liberty in the pursuit of happiness, just like you and I.
War is always terrible, and there's rarely a excuse, just human failure. But "Macedonia" (the name) belongs to Greece IMO.

well,,I doubt we ever agree, but of course everyone has their own opinions,,I know when I was in Macedonia I met a lot of very nice and proud people, and Yugoslavia was divided up from many countries,,none of which decided to keep it as their present "Name". Macedonia and Alexander the Great will probably be a dispute long past you and I live on this earth. I know my passport was not stamped "Yugoslavia" And the Balkan Wars are pretty intense, This was discussed in a lot more depth in a earlier thread,,maybe I will pull out some of that research but like I said,,you and I most likely will not agree on it anyway. Nikogas

The region of Macedonia as its today is a wide geographical area, covering 51% by Greece and the rest between Bulgaria and officially FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia)=(Macedonia). Those people living in Bulgaria and FYROM they arrived in the area the 6th centuries AC,and settled there.-Their language has remained Slavic ever since. The present borders between the 3 countries drawn at the end of the Balcan wars of 1912/3.Elements of Slavs remained in the Greek part of Macedonia,in which part they lived Alexander and his Father Phillip,as the archeological sites clearly shown.-During the Greek civil war, from 1944/49 there was an uprising from the Slavs speaking in Greek Macedonia wanted to join and having a greater country with their brothers from Yugoslav (then) Macedonia, under the instructions of the then President of Yugoslavia Tito.-The uprising was communist orchestrated, and in the end the communists defeated and pushed over the borders. The Slavs fearing, that they will finished up in jails, they move over to FYROM whats now they called Macedonia, which it was the name Tito decided to be given. Those people historically have nothing to do with the ancient Macedons and their legasy.
