I read a book when I was a kid called the "lure of the Black Hills" as I recall it was about the old west and a few pioneers who were into Beaver trapping and Gold prospecting. A good book for a young boy. I could tell from the book it must be a beautiful state but there's no way I would ever want to live there due to the weather. Isn't that the homeland of the Lacota Souix?

Just be aware that from the last week of July to the middle of August the state of South Dakota is inundated with motorcycles for the Black Hills Rally in Sturgis and Rapid City area. The whole state is in flux with the amount of bikes on the highways. It really is a beautiful state and the surrounding states of Wyonming etc are really something as well. Where abouts in South Dakota did you end up?

the black hills were given to the ancestors of the human beings...a survey team found gold tthere and custer was sent to radicate them...its still considered sacred land...
there are bison there...and Bison university...the elders discussed staying there and agreed it would be the last time they moved willingly...Black Elk help organize the indians...
