Depends on the animal. Here I've hit a couple off deer. Man they are quite tasty. Small animals like natures tiny speed bumps(squirrel's, rabbits and the like) just keep going.

Don't try to pick it up thinking you would take it to a veternarian. The animal will be in pain and it doesn't know that you want to help. Call the police. They will assess the situation and call animal rescue. I agree with Hunter if it's a squirrel just keep going but if it's a rabbit, I would stop because a rabbit could be a pet..

Here in TN it's illegal to take wild animals as pets. Not to mention it's probably road pizza to begin with. I've hit 2 deer and had to put them down. Vet's cany repair broken legs and broken hips or shoulders. It's best to just put them down and keep the meat.
LifeThirst: If you are not driving still consider if the car hit an animal in which you are.
well it really depends on if its some wild animal or is it someones pet... is it day or night, suburbia or ceneter of the city (how many eyewitness),how much is the car damaged ,have I got my gun with me or do I have to use my jacklift

Back in the early 90's whilst driving to a Pub/Eatery with a young woman on our first date.. I witnessed an animal being struck by a vehicle. It was winter and quite dark, so as I approached the animal I couldn't tell how bad it was hurt. I stopped the vehicle about 15 or so yards from where the animal was, got out of the car and walked back, I found a Rabbit (Quite young)had been squashed from the mid section down, (and I mean squashed) a terrible sight , it was in terrible pain and screaming (never heard anything like the scream), I had no option but to put the poor thing out of it's agony.
I asked the lady with me to reverse the vehicle and leave the reverse lights on so I could see better, I took out the jack from the boot and put the poor little creature out of it's incredible pain.
When we got to the pub, neither of us could eat, and the lady I was with couldn't stop crying (Bless Her)...
montemonte: That is so cool VE. I knew an woman who would pick up a ladybug, an ant or any little creature that got into her house and would put it outside.
Thats awesome ...Im not that dedicated, but I try to be aware
venusenvy: I stopped once and peeled a butterfly off my grill and carried it into the bush and put it on a flower...Does that answer your question?
nicely done VE
i haven't gone that far, but i did pick a bug out that was embedded in my arm while driving through the canyan... (yup...keeping all my body parts inside the truck next time... )
and i would definitely stop if an animal was hit. might have to call Boban for his lift, but i would stop.

WHY?
Why would you keep going if it's a Squirrel? I don't understand... And why only if it was a pet?
Thanks to everyone who already took part in my poll and to those who will come in future.
This poll is all about your life philosophy towards animals. I am wondering and so also feeling very happy to see that so far nobody clicked ‘Keep going’! In future if any one even clicks this option I would suppose there must be a reasonable explanation.
However, the simple idea clicked in my head to post such a poll is a horror movie where several guys and gals were going for camping to a forest at weekend. During their journey their car hit some animals but they didn’t care for those. ‘Horror’ was symbolical but the moral was for every hit to each animal the forest (nature) took revenge (the horror theme).
The poll result is showing that if we all voters (so far) go together for camping… no horror (revenge) will occur on us! Happy Camping!

I have been in this situation a couple of times. Both occasions were on country roads and I hit kangaroos. I shot the injured kangaroos to put them out of their misery.
