I know for a fact they can be....I have a very close friendship with a 36 yr old hunk LOL, we were also business partners...have we ever done anything? Yes, but haven't in almost a year...but we will always be close friends :)
Many of the teachers I worked with were male...just friends. The same with the maths coaches I work with now. I also have friends I have had for 36 years who are male. We have even shared beds on occassion as many did in the 70s if you were at a party or we were on a ballooning or surfing weekend....but there was no 'fooling around'.
I have known sometimes this can change and people can get hurt.
I just saw a movie about this--(gosh, I can't remember the name!) a man and a woman who had been best friends since they were kids were room mates. She was engaged to get married to this jerk, so the room mate filed a suit for common law marriage, compromising her ability to marry another. Of course in the end they discovered they had loved each other all along. It ended nicely...(does anybody remember the name of that movie?)
Nope, have a good few male friends, we'll support and spend time with each other etc. but that's it. If you have a friend you know for years, you know all the good points and also the bad.
I've been engaged three times and married once (16yrs). All of these relationships were destroyed by male "friends". For women, most relationships start as friends and the longer they are friends, eventually she will develop romantic feelings for him. I guess I'm doomed to be alone, because I will no longer tolerate my lady having male friends. Sorry, burned three times in my life. I have to draw the line somewhere.

A guy and a girl can be just friends, but at one point or another, they will fall for each other...M(Vote Below)
